Prehistoric Animals

For those using an eohippus or mesohippus, there is a real life animal that resembles their bone structure. It's called the Okampi.

Could these things be compiled (those that are OGC, of course) and made available for those of us who really would love having a book of dinosaurs, prehistoric mammals, and various other prehistoric critters? I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I know you seem to imply such a compilation is coming, but less than 20 critters seems more like a sneak peek at what I'd like rather than a complete book.

As a side note, it'd be cool to see such a group of prehistoric critters created that took into account evolution on a magic-infused world. There was a dinosaur-like critter with magical abilities in the Epic Level Handbook which made me think I'd love to see more such beasts.

Sometimes, I have the feeling that there is no consideration at all. It's true for living species, too. The organism I'm working on has been renamed at least three times during the last two decades, which makes following the literature quite cumbersome. Even worse, the last name before the recent, for which most of the literature came out, has been reassigned to a different organism; a nightmare!
Not even that, sometimes the classifications are controversial, and certain authors will use certain names and other authors other names for the same critter. You really have to be on top of your game to figure it all out, unfortunately.

Another groups to look at are the horses down through the ages. And that reminds me, Mr Dyal (and others in the know) is there any listings of rodents, lagomorphs and other small mammals from that time period? What about birds?
It's actually kind of difficult to find a single source that tells you all the fossils that have been found for a given faunal assemblage. I've looked! :)

It'd be really nice to have a layout of all the rodents, birds, lagomorphs, etc. from the same time period and location in which, say, Smilodon fatalis lived.

Although let's be honest; a rat is a rat is a rat, at least to the PCs. ;)

It has nothing to do with PCs. I have never found a source on them and want it for my library.

And as for rats- I am guessing that many a PC has died from giant rat borne diseases. And, though it is going in the wrong direction on the timeline, predator rats from Dixon's After Man, have probably killed a few as well. I wish some one would get a licence for his work. :]

Jeez, you've read my mind. I've wished for this to happen for a long while. Not just After Man, though; his The New Dinosaurs also has fantastic potential. A lot of After Man's critters could be covered fairly easily by using stats for animals already in D&D - predator rats could use wolf stats, for example. But I'd still like to see such a book, especially with the original artwork.

"M'Kolo-M'bembe" is a classic for your Apatosaurs
Mkolo-Mbembe turned out to be a rhino. And I'd been getting all excited.

Still holding out for the Mongolian Death Worm and the Cornish Owl Man though...
