Preorderers: How much did the giftset REALLY cost?

I just switched my preorder from Amazon to B&N based on this info. My only concern is that perhaps Amazon is listing the wrong information when it says estimated to ship June 10 and that like many other preordered items it will in fact ship before June 6 so as to arrive then, while B&N may in fact ship on June 6 such that free 3-day may still be later. Of course the Amazon info may be correct and/or B&N may also ship the item early so that it arrives day of release. If nothing else it's a saving of $4 or so.

A side-note: when you get to a certain point in the B&N order process it asks if you want to create an account and says if you don't you won't be eligible for coupons that require a new customer purchase. Although clearly that applied in my case, I tried clicking to not create an account just to see. It did remove the savings, so I hit back and click OK on the Firefox dialog box regarding reposting data yadda yadda and it took me back to the page where I provide name address, etc. That is, I had to mostly start over. The interesting part is then I got to a page where it was ready for the order but did not ask me this time about creating a new account and yet the coupon discount was there again! I completed the order, checked my receipt, entered the order number and my email address to see my order yet again and still it appears that I somehow got the discount even though I did not create a new account. I give this long-winded description in case anyone would like the discount but would prefer not to create a new account. You can always try and see if it works for you as well. At worst, you can decline to place the order or you can go ahead and create the account, but if you'd rather not, no harm in trying what worked for me. I have no idea if that would enable me to use the coupon again (moot because I have no plans to make another purchase) but there you have it.

Amazon always pushes back the estimated shipping if you pick the free option. I chose to pay $4 and mine says shipping June 6th.

If this weren't such a popular item, I think it's possible the free option might actually ship earlier, since this isn't a particularly busy time of year. But then, the boxed set is currently the #7 (!) best seller in books, so they may be a bit busy.

Amazon adds an additional 5% pre-order discount to items, you only see it at the checkout however.

This is my Amazon pre-order:

Item(s) Subtotal: $62.97
Shipping & Handling:$0.00
Books Pre-order: -$3.15
-----
Total Before Tax: $59.82
Estimated Tax: $0.00
-----
Grand Total: $59.82

Caveat Emptor: I've heard occasional tales of shipping issues with B&N, as in, they don't deliver as quick as Amazon.

Actually, I just saw that it's at #6 in the best selling books! Very neat to see.

I can't predict what will happen this time, but when I ordered the last Harry Potter book via Amazon using free shipping, it showed up at my house on the release date.

No way the 4e rules set is a bigger release than the last HP book. So I know logistically, Amazon can handle it.

I just don't know if HP was a special case and Amazon had permission to ship it the day before, or if that is how they handle all pre-orders.

Canadians take note

I noticed that Amazon's US site is listing the gift set for $62.97 whereas the the Canadian site lists $76.23; meanwhile conversion rates still favour the Canadian dollar...

It's almost $15 cheaper for a Canadian to order from the US site :)
