Prestige Class question

First Post
Hi there friends. I have a quick question:

I have been RELIGIOUSLY using the Javascript D&D 3.5 Character Generator and have found only a few limitations. The largest causes me to ask this question:

The Generator will not allow selection of a Prestige class until level 6. I thought once the requirements are met, you can take the level.

Example:

Kensai require: Concentration 5, Diplomacy 5, Riding 5, Weapons Focus (any), Base Attack +5.

A level 2 Paladin or Factotum (maybe others) can meet these requirements and take Kensai at level 3, but the Generator will not allow it.

Is there something I don't know? Is there a level six Prestige class requiement I missed somewhere?

The BAB requirement is for base attack bonus, not attack bonus with modifiers. So, the paladin can't meet the requirements until level 5, at which point you could take the 6th level as Kensai. Hope that helps!

The Base Attack Bonus requirement is at +5, so no character can take it before level 6, once they've hit +5 in their base class. As a general rule, there is no prestige class that can be taken before level 6 - this is intentional, in order to prevent early specialization and minmaxing. If the skill prerequisites can be met early, you can make a sure bet that there will be a Base Attack prerequisite, or SOMETHING that you can't get to before level 6. That's why your program won't let you take one before that - there are none.

I thought so. Thanks Naz. The Base Att Bonus point really makes sense. That explains alot. I have found a few Prestige classes with no at bonus modifier but so far these have 9 or more points needed in a skill...hehe...which can only be obtained at level 6. Hehe. Sneaky game designers.

I wanted to build a particularly nasty "Factotem/Kensai" but it will have to wait till later. Bummer.

Right remember that you must meet the prerequisites to enter a prestige class before taking a level - you can't meet them at the same time, unlike feats. Almost all Prestige classes will require 5 levels of some other class(es) before you can take a level in it.
