And ah, humans and half-elves have no class that doesn't suffer under the XP penalty right? THat's at least how I understand it.

No. Prestige classes don't count for calculating XP penalties.

No. Their favoured class is whichever class they have the most levels in.

A half-elven Ftr2/Rog3 has a favoured class of Rogue. If he gains two Fighter levels, to Ftr4/Rog3, his favoured class changes to Fighter.

yeah, but the XP penalty is only negated if the lowest class is the favored class right? That mean's that humans always pay the penalty when they multiclass.

Huh? No, you completely ignore any levels in favoured class for calculating XP penalties.

A dwarven Ftr7/Rog2/Clr3 has no XP penalty. We ignore his Fighter levels (since Fighter is his favoured class), and Rog2 and Clr3 are within one level of each other.

A dwarven Ftr2/Rog7/Clr3 has an XP penalty. We ignore his Fighter levels (since Fighter is his favoured class), but Rog7 and Clr3 are more than one level apart.

A human Ftr7/Rog2/Clr3 has no XP penalty. We ignore his Fighter levels (since his highest levelled class is favoured), and Rog2 and Clr3 are within one level of each other.

Make sense?
