Prestige classes for druids.

Just a quick question for you guys, I have a druid that is going to be mainly a summoner/wildshape build. Is it worth it to take levels in any prestige classes and if so, any good reccomendations? Thanks ahead of time:)

No. None.

PrCs are bad for druids, with the only exception being if you had planned on becoming a Shifter (/Warshaper, /Nature's Warrior, /Etc) from the outset. Druid is one of the few classes they built right, where it's worth sticking with the class for the full progression of the character.

For the most part, dipping into PrCs meant that some of the druid's key abilities, like Wild Shape, become less powerful. You say that your character is primarily a summoner/wildshaper - good, stick with that. Nothing does that combo better than a straight druid does.

Ok thanks, thats just about what I was thinking myself, but its nice to have some confirmation:)

In case you want more confirmation I'll agree with the above ;) Multiclassing druids without something very important in mind (massive rp) is generally bad news as you lose something important pretty much no matter what.

The shifter prc isnt terribly worthwhile to go into either unfortunately ;/ It is the 'almost good enough for certain types of druids' prc. Others are sortof good at other things, but by and large it is simply easier and better to stick with the class.

The dm could make up a prc that lets the character emphasize how they like however.

I've never played them, but both Warshaper and Nature's Warrior (both from Complete Warrior) seem pretty decent. If you're more interested in wildshaping a lot and being a combatant, I might even say taking both of them could be cool. But if you want to retain a halway decent spellcasting ability, stick with Nature's Warrior or just straight Druid.

Two or four levels of Nature's Warrior are very tempting, as it doesn't hurt your Wildshaping progression and only half hurts your casting progression. The wild growth ability (fast healing) seems especially useful. On the other hand, it costs a feat and some cross-class skill ranks to qualify -- and what druid actually takes Track, when turning into a wolf gives you that as a bonus feat? Especially given that, as a summoner, you might have burned two feats for Augment Summoning.

Warshaper has some neat abilities but it hurts the wildshape progression and spellcasting. I wouldn't take it until you already have Huge forms available *and* have another divine caster in the party.

Druid is a PrC. Okay, I'm oversimplifying, but druids are already focused in scope and possess a variety of powerful abilities. Most druids should stay single class, unless they have a specific reason for doing otherwise.

decent fighters, decent spell casters

Playing a character currently that just multied into druid.... bad idea. It was for RP reasons, so unless that is a focator or you just get bored stick with it. The druid is hard in those early levels, but if you make to level five it pays off, and each level thereafter makes it that must better.
There are some good PrC's out there for druid, but they are only good for focusing. Most seem balanced in that if you take them you have to loose somethign else or slow down in advancing in some other area.

So unless a good reason RP or focus wise, stick with straight druid.
