Prestige classes that keep getting done... again and again and again..

Sorcerer Prestige Classes seem to miss.
How about a "Rage Caster" or something like that. :) (That is something we talked about in our gaming group. Maybe I will do it...)

I assume the smiley-face is because you already know about the rage-mage prestige class from Dragon and didn't like it?

I don't know the ones I liked were the Orders of Corean, (Working on both a theme of metal AND a god's different portfolios), Calastian Battlemage (my version anyway! :) ), Blood Witch and Penumbral Lord. Archmage I just like since it's what an archmage is about, mastery of arcane arts, even if it's more wizard based than sorcerer.

I'm giving *all* PrC's the Rule Zero Treatment in my upcoming game.

To compensate, I'm thinking about with making some of the more interesting (and BALANCED) PrC special abilities available as Feats...with proper prereq's of course.

I have done this too. I would also recomend allowing some of the varient core classes for variety.

In particular the archer, mounted warrior, stalker, soldier, and sailor (from Sovereign stone) and the various ones from Kalamar (basirian dancer, spell singer, and my fave the infiltrator) are well worth adding.

Just for variety anyway

Frankly I'm not sure archers and soldiers need seperate core classes. I think their skills are amply covered by the core rules. There's PB shot and so on. Why the need for a variant core class?

The reason for so many duplicate prestige classes is that, let's face it there are only so many major variations out there.

Everytime I get a new print publication I catalouge the prestige classes, spells, monsters, feats, magic items etc. So that I can find them easier when I want them later.I buy a majority of what comes out (though I'm looking at cutting back). But My point is that I count more than 500 "different" prestige classes in my collection of books alone. This doesn't count anything that is only available on the internet.

The only way the duplicate PrC are going to stop is if WoTC publishes some sort of Unearthed Arcana/Players Handbook II with the most obvious ones included and makes it open content immediately and although I can see the former happening probably next year the later probably isn't going to happen.

Hey,

I'd like to see this Dark Farmer prestige class. Can somebody post a link to it? Thanks a lot.

(I have a player whose character concept is a farmer who now worships an evil god)

So which would be the most interesting PrCs you've seen Lady Dragon?

There are some original PrCs, such as The Scarlet Squirrel. PrC creators should really think about tying them to guilds and organisations. Most of the time, they're a few leagues better than non-organisation PrCs.

One of the reasons so man variant prestige classes pop up is because a character may like part of the idea, but not the hole concept. All to often there is a few key abilities that a person would like but would have to devote to levels and abilities they do not want to spend. The end result new variations on an orginal prestige class. Ya there is an extreme amount of prestige classes out there but the variation to the original idea is to make something that the player wants to play and enjoy.

If options were limmited I know I would feel restricted. That is one of the things that makes 3e so good, it is the flexability of the rules. The option to make somethign new. Alot of the time though afew changes to a currently exsisting class/prestige class could solve this problem though.

The other issue about MPC (Mass Prestige Classes) is the balance factor. Alot of the time something is made with alot fo good intention, but it simply becomes to weak or to strong.

Also the issue of alot of the problems being a player could easily be just as effective by makign proper multi-class and roleplaying choices is a good point, but I disagree. Alot of layers do nto design there characters path all the way to level 20. Sure they know what they would like ot be roughly but not 100% certain. So by having a variety of similar but different types a player can still enter an avenue that would be what they want. Flexability is the issue, as long as it remainns balancing and not rules breaking.

Also how abotu a link to that dark farmer if its still around that is, pretty please :D
