They alluded to Prestige classes in reference to paragon paths. IE: "A frenzied berserker is still a barbarian" In essence, thats what a paragon path is: a prestige class. Most Prestige classes can be remade into paragon paths (and indeed, many have) with the added benefit of not losing out on your normal class abilities (since everyone has a Paragon Path, you don't need to balance them against "baseline" classes)
