Pricing a PDF?

We have experienced our best sales numbers with our higher priced merchandice. I've noticed some vendors pricing extremely high quality material at a very low price and I think this hurts perception of their product. From just the guys I play D&D with it seems $3-15 seems to be the acceptable price range for PDFs. Our new DRAGON LORE line will probably be in the $3.00-$3.50 range for a 20 page PDF.

Our best sellers are also our higher priced products. I think far too many publishers set their prices too low.

I'd have to agree with that. While our sales numbers are good (we're anywhere from #35-#50 on the RPGNow Ranking Report), our dollar amounts are nowhere close and I do notice other publishers without as many sales are pulling in more money. So the thought to bear this in mind for future products has crossed my mind, but there is the delicate balance of retail.

I don't really use sales projections or the like. It basically comes down to how much per copy I'm paying my people, tacked on with some extra profit for me, but these are all based on percentages, so they're adjustable. But if I want the artist to make $1 a copy, I have to factor that. The real decision comes down to just how much I would be willing to pay for it if I were the customer. Plain and simple (and revisable).
