Pricing Metamagic Feats

First Post
Hello everyone! Anyone who can help me out, I want to thank you for your time in advance, it is appreciated.

Now, down to business. Let's say I want to add one (or more) metamagic feats to item and when wearing it, I was treated as actually having the feat(s). If you prepared spells, you could take it off after (which is cheesy to me, but oh well) and if you spontaneously cast..it's best to just keep it on. Let's assume it is slotted item. How would I price each feat?

I don't see anything wrong with doing this, per se, since there are those rods that will let casters do it for free on any spell level a few times per day. Atleast this way one is still losing those precious higher level spell slots.

Thanks again!

Base it off the prices for the metamagic rods from Tome and Blood (or the DMG if playing 3.5). Then multiply the cost by about 5 since you're not limiting their uses, and divide by 2 because you're not getting the level slots for free.

In other words: really damned expensive.

For those that are interested, here's how the metamagic rods are priced in T&B...

Code:
[b]Up to 3rd-level spells (+10,600 beyond 4th-level spells)
Level Mod	Market Price[/b]
+0 2,700 gp
+1 5,400 gp
+2 16,200 gp
+3 27,200 gp
+4 37,800 gp
+5 48,400 gp
+6 59,000 gp
+7 69,600 gp
+8 80,200 gp
+9 90,800 gp

[b]Up to 6th-level spells (+43,200 beyond 4th-level spells)
Level Mod	Market Price[/b]
+0 10,500 gp
+1 21,600 gp
+2 64,800 gp
+3 108,000 gp
+4 151,200 gp
+5 194,400 gp
+6 237,600 gp
+7 280,800 gp
+8 324,000 gp
+9 367,200 gp

[b]Level Mod	Market Price[/b]
+0 24,300 gp
+1 48,600 gp
+2 145,800 gp
+3 243,000 gp
+4 340,200 gp
+5 437,400 gp
+6 534,600 gp
+7 631,800 gp
+8 729,000 gp
+9 826,200 gp

I haven't figured up the prices for the 3.5 DMG yet. EDIT: Actually, looks like you can just divide the T&B price by 2 and you'll get something really close to what's in the 3.5 DMG. Weird.

You'll probably notice that greater metamagic rods containing a metamagic feat having a spell level modifier greater than +1 cost an additional 97,200gp per level modifier beyond the +1 level mod price. Normal metamagic rods are an additional 43,200 beyond the +1 level mod price. But strangely enough, lesser metamagic rods don't seem to adhere to such a rigid formula. I figured up the additional 10,600 beyond the +1 level mod price based upon the difference in cost between a +4 level mod and a +3 level mod.

Also, if you're running a truly epic game, you could figure out the unlimited-use price (or 5/day price, if you're the type of DM that just really doesn't like unlimited-use, which I can understand) by dividing any of the prices by 3 and multiplying that by 5.

I had to do this to create a magic item for an NPC that automatically empowered all of their applicable 3rd-level and lower spells and also allowed them to use the Enhance Spell metamagic feat on any applicable 2nd-level or lower spell 1/day.
