Ugh.

Now, I know what they're trying to say, but they're just not saying it. What you attack is undefined, but if you hit it, everybody drops. C'mon, guys, this isn't the first item with an attack power.

It's a close burst, so you roll the attack against each creature. The mistake is in saying "all creatures in the burst fall prone." It should just say "The target falls prone."

Or at least, that's how I interpret it (and it's the only interpretation that really makes sense, at least to me).

While all the items seem interesting to me as crunch bits, what really has me impressed is the background stories. They all seem really evocative with me, I especially like the stories about Anhur, the goliath raised by hill giants.

I am tremendously disappointed by this article--I play a druid and a shaman, and there is basically nothing here I want at all. Never mind that the current selection of totems may be charitably described as anemic, and that the staffs in the books are intended for wizards, not druids. One new effing totem would have been enough for me to get something out of this article. I hate you, "Kolja Raven Liquette".

Also: soulfangs are a big "up yours" to your leader. If anyone uses one in the game I play in, my shaman is going to let them die. My job is hard enough without you killing yourself for tiny bonuses.

My favorite part is the level 16 druid soulfang that makes wildshape a free action. So you're diverting valuable healing from your defender and killing yourself--to avoid taking one feat. A feat that you qualify for if you have the soulfang.

(My other favorite is the shaman soulfang that adds increasing bonuses to Spirit Shield's damage rolls--the damage rolls that do not exist. But that's enough for right now.)

I think Nifft's reading is you hit ... something (one creature?) and as a rider everything in the area falls prone? A bit like cleave, there's even some primal powers that work like that already (druids get on as a low level encounter).

I too think...
...that they intended the item to work like "make the stated attack against somebody; if you hit everybody falls prone"
...that this is broken (don't allow powers that slap status effects on nasty BBEGs by hitting easy mooks) and that the alternative interpretation "treat like a burst, any target you hit is additionally made prone" is much more reasonable.

Of course, there would have been a much easier - and more standard - way to express exactly that, so that makes me fairly certain it is that first broken interpretation that was intended by the author.

Dude, this is a real person. Please don't over-react, eh?

That being said, the article seems to have been unaccountably poorly developed or edited.

Yeah, I'm being hyperbolic. If you're reading this, Kolja, I don't actually hate you. But this was going to be a highlight of the month for me, and I'm very annoyed there's nothing I want, and several things I don't want in the game at all.
