geeks with girlfriends?

Bah ignore all this "good" advice is for suckers....you need to just sleep with his girlfriend. That will do the trick just fine. :)

Do people as socially inept as this have girlfriends? And if they do, would they possibly be attractive enough to bang? Or are you just socially inept enough yourself that anything qualifies....just kidding around....

Honestly, take this dude out, have a few beers, enjoy some good entertainment, and explain that it is just a game. It's not personal, and I do not know if y'all are friends outside the gaming circle, but anyone who would get that upset over the game, if we were not friends outside the game, I would say....see ya...

Beers, football, strippers and friends are the best combo...

After reading the "creepiest gamer" thread on RPGNet; I am (now more than ever) convinced that it is possible for anyone, and I do mean ANYONE to somehow manage to scrounge up a signifigant other.

Sometimes you just have to take one for the team.

I don't know, you'll have to ask my wife. :)

Honesty is the best policy.

You believe that he quit. So send him an e-mail saying as much. "Sorry it didn't work out, wish you better luck with your next group." You don't have to say any more than that. It should be a good clue that he's not welcome back.

However, if he does attempt to return, or e-mails you asking about a return, be firm but polite. "Sorry, but there's a bit of bad blood over the way you stormed out. We really don't want to go through that again." Or at most; "You quit. You left. You insulted everyone at the table in doing so. You are not welcome anymore. Sorry."

That should end it right there.

But if it doesn't, just remember: you do not have to reply to every e-mail, to every question, to every charge. You can simply let the matter rest by refusing to hit the reply button.

That is an excellent suggestion, put the pressure on his shoulders. You let him know that the relationship is ended and it was his actions that ended it.

Alternatively, and this falls squarely under Krieg's motto, pointing the subject of discussion to the thread in which their expulsion is debated seems to lead to a fairly quick and nuclear ending of the relationship.

Thanks for some of these latter suggestions. I remember in my days in politics, I once accepted someone's resignation against their will. That was a clever social move.

And yes, for those who are curious, his pregnant wife stormed out with him (although a good deal more politely). She's a little socially confused, herself, but that mainly stems from the fact that she is unfamiliar with Canadian cultural and social protocols and, being a first-generation immigrant, has modeled some of her behaviour on that of her husband.

Still, she is a very nice person and had functioned to keep him at bay until the last session when things kind of melted down. We will miss her.

Although we now have a new player who is socially competent, one of the great ironies of the game up until three weeks ago was that this guy had a wife and family and the rest of us, conventional gamers that we are, had been single for the better part of a decade. I think this actually functioned to make us put up with him much longer -- there was this sense of "well, he's the only one here who is actually married and going to start a family... he can't really be as socially out to lunch as he seems."
