printing pdf's vs. books - cost comparison?

And since I'm seeing this a lot in this thread: laser printers do not use ink cartridges, they use toner (just like a photocopier). Ink/Bubblejet printers use ink cartridges. Printing PDF's with an inkjet can be expensive... very very expensive. (I probably get a couple of hundred pages on my inkjet before I have to replace the cartridge, I get about 4500 - 5000 on a toner cartridge for my laser printer)

Yeah, I had an inkjet, not a laser printer, now that I think of it. It was awhile ago, and I must've blocked the memory of that money muncher. Think how many cool RPG books I could've bought if I hadn't had to spend money on print cartridges.

4500-5000 pages on a laser printer... yeah, my next printer is going to be one of those.

What kind of printers do you guys get? Back when I had my laser printer I was lucky to get 100 pages before the ink ran out (easy to do when working on school papers). Then I had to spend $80 on another cartridge. Man, I hated that printer.

Personally I bought a HP LaserJet 2200d. HP doesnt make it any more but it's a pretty decent printer. I know that each cartridge for my printer can kick out about 5,000 pages on average...

Has anyone had problems with Kinko's saying they're not allowed to print a PDF because it's copyright material?

Hasn't happened to me, but then I'm just using them to bind my copies. If you asked them to print a .pdf they may have a problem, but I doubt it. I would, however, expect a problem if you gave them a book and asked them to copy it for you.

Black = 9k pages
Color = 6K pages
Fuser = 50-100k pages

I have a Samsung ML-1210, cartridges are $50 and last around 6k pages.

You can do a form of duplexing as well.

Plus, it prints out to index cards.

I'm using a Konica Minolta PagePro 1350 W

Like I said in my earlier post, the driver makes it easy to print two-up and/or duplex, from any program. It's been a very pleasant experience.

Tav, those are some very cool ideas, and would definitely influence me to take a second look at a company's products that was offering such a complete package.
