Pathfinder 1E Probably a silly question but

My friends and I are looking to get a pathfinder game going, and I've been looking into classes to play and have a question. I don't normally play casters in pre 4e but have been thinking of branching out some, and looking at prestige classes I'm curious, when it says +1 to existing spellcasting class and in the text says that the only increase is in spells per day, does this mean that if say I multi'd as a level 5 wizard, I would only be able to cast level 3 spells, or if I found higher level ones would I be able to cast them because of the spells per day I gained from my prestige class?

"+1 To Existing Spellcasting Class" increases your effective class level for determining how many spells you know, what level of spells you can cast, the number of spells you can cast per day, and your caster level.
