ok. i just got a new emachine with windows xp home edition.
the problem i'm facing is this. whenever i try to download images off the net, mostly jpeg images, xp won't let me view them. when i try to set a jpeg image as a wallpaper, it comes out fuzzy and out of focus. what the black is going on?

and yes, they're mostly landscape images.....

How are you trying to view the images? Are you saving them somewhere and double-clicking on them, or just setting them as wallpaper to view them?

For the ones you set as wallpaper, here's something to try.

1. Right click on a blank area of your desktop and select Properties.
2. On the Display Properties page select the Desktop tab.
3. Look for a pulldown box labelled Position.
4. Make sure that option is set to Center or Tile and NOT to Stretch.

If you're saving the pictures somewhere on your computer, here's something to try.

1. Right click on a jpg file and select Open With.
2. If Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is an option under Open With, then choose it, otherwise choose Select Program and look for Windows Picture and Fax Viewer on the list which pops up, then click it and then click Ok.

The Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is a very handy way to view jpgs. You can cycle through all of the picture files in a folder by using the arrow keys, as well as zoom in, delete, copy, and print pictures.

Open your my documents folder
click on tools->folder options
click the file types tab in the new box you just opened
scroll down until you find jpg and jpeg (alphabetically)
click on one, look at the details at the bottom of the box
click the CHANGE button to have them open with the app of your choice (if all else fails you can even have IE open them)

Good Luck
J

well. i think i fixed it. it looks like that particular file might have been broken. i dunno. it works fairly well on most of the pics i've tried. weird.
