So, Project Hail Mary is an okay book, but not Weir's best. He's stepping beyond things that are solidly known science and into more speculative stuff.

Same guy that wrote The Martian, which I found to be a good/fun movie. Trailer looks ok.

I listened to this book and have literally no memory of the story. Weir seems to be like that for me: he is entertaining enough, but also utterly forgettable.

In The Martian and Project Hail Mary, his main characters spend most of their time alone, which probably doesn't help in that regard.

I quite enjoyed the book. It's not as good as The Martian, but it was enjoyable. I do enjoy a first contact story, especially one with a new spin on it.

Character is not Weir’s strength as a writer, but they’ve got an excellent character actor, so this gives me hope the film will be better than the book. Which was kinda fun, but not nearly as good as The Martian.
