I absolutely loved it. It tried a bit too much at once (
as much as I love racists getting shot, the KKK shootout after the climax felt wrong and unnecessary
), but it was so full of creative directing, editing, camera choices, this move felt INSPIRED. I also loved the slow build up in the first half, made me care about the characters when the catastrophe happens. I loved the music and the role it plays in the story. And obviously like everybody i absolutely adored THAT scene. One of the best scenes in cinema in recent years.

Another strong example why horror and fantastic stories are really great story "packages". It always makes me sad when cineasts belittle genre movies and think you need a oscar bait historical drama to tell great, emotional stories.

It also felt partly as a hommage/nod to From Dusk Till Dawn. First half no supernatural, we follow two gangster brothers in a variety of locations, second half vampires enter the story and it all plays in one pub/bar like location. An "exciting" stage show scene connects the two parts of the movie. But instead of the protagonists entering the bar and running into the vampires, they are in the bar, they are the owners and the vampires run into them.

Spoilers.
A shootout with KKK in a pulpy POC movie that has a setting in that era is not really spoiling a surprise to me. The KKK get introduced in the beginning of the movie and clearly is a checkovs gun. What was a surprise to me was THE scene in the middle of the movie and thus I did not want to spoil it and only call it "THE scene". But I accept that the internet has a absurdly high spoiler sensitivity nowadays so I did mark the "spoiler". Also please edit your quote from me, because now you still spoil the surprise that racists might getting shot in this movie 🙃

it’s ok but it’s not a horror movie and it’s barely a vampire movie

The vampires fo r the most part could easily be replaced with record company’s. I think at 1 point the Beatles were accused o f this etc etc

There’s no jump scares-no dropped bang nothing

Like dusk til dawn it gets silly after a while like the music numbers outside etc

Jordan and the cast are good but I’m not recommending it as a horror movie . Also don’t Jordan is the star of the movie. He’s good but not Oscar good

6/10 as it’s a different take, music was good and unfortunately it’s better than some recent movies especially vampire movies like nosferatu and last voyage of Demeter

I’ll stand by my statement
It’s really a social commentary movie gift wrapped in a vampire thing and there are parts that are just weird (the drooling and the drooling x scene)
More than 1/2 the movie isn’t about vampires so at best it’s 1/2 a vampire movie. On top 🔝 f it one of the best scenes (my opinion) comes after the movie ends
The movie is called sinners. You tell me why it’s called that

Vampire stories have been used for social commentary going back to one of the first pop culture depictions of a vampire in Varney the Vampire/The Feast of Blood where the titular character was used to express frustration with the Victorian class system.

The movie is called sinners. You tell me why it’s called that
Because among the many other topics the movie addresses it's dealing with the relationship between African Americans and Christianity in the United States. The opening scene is even a sermon being given in a church.
