Thanks!pitlord75 said:Great starting build!! I like it a lot. However, any particular reason the maul rather then the greataxe? From an optimization view, I think the greataxe is the better weapon. Also, for your 3rd level power choice, you don't think sweeping blow (especially with the greataxe) would be a better choice.
Also, why Powerful Charge (which only allows a normal attack) over Potent Challenge (another +con to damage) or Weapon Focus (a flat +1)?
Either way, great job on the pregens!
No particular reason Maul over Greataxe. Maul wasn't really a bad choice, so I left it alone. Axes are also great, and the feat works well with both. If you choose an axe, Sweeping Blow is indeed a fine 3rd level power. But that power choice comes down to: do I want to deal 1[w] + Str*3/2 to every little critter, or do I want to deal 2[w] + Str + Con, which is more than twice the damage of the first power, to one big critter? From what I've seen so far, big critters hit HARD, and taking them out early is very, very good. I haven't seen our Fighter get mobbed by more than three melee critters at once yet, so in my experience thus far I'd call it a bad choice to optimize for being surrounded. (And that's before we even consider the terrible tactical implications of remaining surrounded in the event that you don't kill everything around you with your little 1[w] + Str*3/2.)
Powerful Charge is in there because it gives two good options, which are easy to use well (unlike Power Attack), and because Charging works nicely against Shifty critters who annoyingly tend to avoid at-will standard attacks. Anyone ambushed by Kobolds will know of what I speak.
