Prone movement?

Can anyone direct me to the rules in the srd on moving while prone?

All I seem to find in the Combat II section is that it is a move action to stand up that draws an AoO, you can't use most missile weapons while prone, you have a penalty to melee attacks, missile attacks against you have a penalty, and melee attacks against you have a bonus.

Can you move normally at a crawl under the rules? Five foot step away (rolling aside) then stand up and hit your opponent with a reach weapon with a full attack action?

I seem to recall this being one of the things not in the SRD ... I didn't find it with a quick scan.

The rule, however, is that crawling is a (move equivalent or standard - I forget which and I don't have the books with me ...) action that allows a prone character to move 5'. It provokes an AoO.

Can someone confirm this with a page reference?

PHB, Page 142, under the Move subheading, which is under Move Actions.

So if you are prone, you may crawl 5' as a move action. You provoke AOOs for doing so.

Edit:

One item that is of interest: I have not found an explicit rule that states you cannot take your 5' step while prone. Of course, I wouldn't allow it in my game, but it is an interesting (potential) ommission.

Also, I assume you could do a double move with the crawl and move 10' in a round, provoking AOOs through both squares.

It is not an omission, since they have made it so that situations do exist that a 5' step is not allowed, this would be one such situation, although they could have been a lot clearer...

Thanks for the info, I surely did not know it before this thread showed up. :)

Excelent question, I think that this would work well but it would need a DC higher than the common tumble through threatened squares and lower than the OA kip up as free action test... I think I would allow it, after all, we all have seen those movies with the guy in the ground rolling side and forward to avoid attacks from its foes... ;)

Would it not be addressed inderectly by the restricted movement part of the SRD? It would be akin to the greatly restricting terrain where taking a 5' step would be a move action and provoke AoO... that is how I would address it...

It is in the SRD (under Move Actions in the Combat I (Basics) section). It reads:

"Crawling: You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl."

No, I couldn't find an explicit reference either, but then, anyone who is prone can't, by definition, take a 5 ft step. But they would be able to crawl...

That would be my reading of it, also, since it is a move action.
