Protection from energy

Is it possible to have several clerics cast different versions of the Protection from Energy spells, meaning you would be protected from all five types of energy?

Yes, each different type will cause the spell to be "different" hence they do not overlap but stack! So if you want to use gold / resources on it, it is certainly possible

Nice. I'm planning on buffing my bad-guy with five Protection from Energy-spells tomorrow (he has a lot of clerics in his entourage).

Almost definitely.

(Although, this being the internet, I have seen the occasional poster try and argue that by their interpretation of the RAW this can't be done :) )

Yup, I've seen several posts arguing that you cannot benefit from several applications of protection from elements since it's still the same spell and thus wouldn't stack.

I allow it in my games and haven't found it to be problematic.

It doesn't stack - it overlaps. If you've got all five protections up and you're blasted with acid, the best defense applies. Since protection from fire, elec, cold, and sonic all give 0 acid resistance, then the acid one is best and applies.

IIRC, there was a ruling on this recently in either the FAQ or from the Sage. I think the ruling was yes, you can can do it.
I don't recall seeing such a Sage ruling, but I do know that the original designers allowed them to stack, even though this seems to be disallowed by the "Same Effect with Differing Results" rule which (despite the title) addresses "The same spell can sometimes produce varying effects if applied to the same recipient more than once."

By strict RAW, this stacking rule would seem to cover multiple instances of protection from energy. However, the rule should probably be removed as it does not seem to cover any cases that are not covered by another stacking rule, and the designers themselves didn't use it.

I agree with the others that you can do it. Also note that you don't necessarily need multiple different casters to do what you are suggesting. If one Cleric can cast enough of the spells that you need he could do it all by himself. Of course, that would probably take a fair chunk of his spell allocation for that level for the day so spreading it around the casters may be a better option.
