[Psi] Soulknife questions / Soulknife NPC

A psion makes a good soulknife too. You can implant Brain Lock into your foe, with no saving throw! If you use Fell Shot or Deep Impact, it's better than the Heighten Power feeat.

Psion?

Why not just start with Psychic Warrior and move straight towards Soulknife, the same way I did with the NPC above?

Because the Psychic Warrior doesn't reach the minimum necessary Power Points until 6th level; he can't be a Soulknife until 7th character level and his "free" specialization is already used up.

If the DM lets you "hold" that specialization in disregard of the text* in the PsiHB, then the best path to Soulknife is straight Psychic Warrior.

Greg

*Weapon Specialization: On achieving 6th level, a psychic warrior gains the Weapon Specialization feat. The psychic warrior must have Weapon Focus with that weapon to gain Weapon Specialization. If the weapon is a ranged weapon, the damage bonus applies only if the target is within 30 feet, because only at that range can the psychic warrior strike precisely enough to hit more effectively. Psychic warriors gain Weapon Specialization as a free feat; it doesn’t count against the character’s bonus and regular feat acquisition. The character cannot take Weapon Special-ization as a bonus or regular feat at any other level.

Why can you not take Weapon Specialization (Short Sword) at 6th level? It would apply to the mindblade, as the mind blade is in all ways equivalent to a short sword.

I see. That's a good reason, of course.

We do allow to hold feats until you gain the next, so it's no problem, but in general you are right, of course.

And I'm really not sure, whether feats applicable to short swords would apply to the Mind-Blade... It seems to be a seperate weapon, that is just very similar.

You *can*, but then you're hosed after the Upgrade and it becomes in all ways equivalent to a longsword. *I*'d certainly let it apply to all three, but that's just me.

It ain't written anywhere that you *must* use the upgraded version - and anyway you have to meet the requirement of a power point reserve (7 afaik). I planned on playing a rogue/psion / soulknife (before that character died last tuesday): he had weapon finesse (short sword) and would be a killer if he could hit home with a sneak attack (and with 5d6 or more bonus damage from sneak attack, it don't matter if the weapon itself deals 1d6 or 1d8)
