psion / wizards

Nightstorm

First Post
with all of the talk of a revised psionics handbook, I was wondering if anyone did the work of making the psion a psionic version of a wizard by making charts and such on a website.
One thing I was wondering does anyone have a website where the psion has free metapsionic feats like the wizard gets metamagic feats?

I'm not sure what you mean by the former - do you mean that he chooses his powers at the beginning of each day? That doesn't seem to fit the idea of psionics very well.

For the latter, what you are looking for is either If Thoughts Could Kill or Mindscapes, both by Bruce Cordell and both from Malhavoc Press. (If it were a choice of one or the other, I'd go with Mindscapes, as it also provides an excellent alternative psionic combat system.)

Resculpt Mind feat from WotC's web site "The Mind's Eye" allows psions to replace combat modes with feats.

I just gave a free feat every 5th level as per wizards.

bonus feats

Bruce Cordell commented on the Resculpt Mind feat, and I believe he said something to the effect that it's broken unless you spread out the acquisition of bonus feats so you don't get them all in the first few levels.

I believe Resculpt Mind to be too powerful as well, as all Psions end up taking it.
That is because it was intended as a 'fix'. In order to get fixed, you need to take the feat.

Better off just scrapping psionic combat and giving feats every 5th level. Though I don't know whether to make the first feat on level one a free choice or the psionic equivalent of "scribe scroll" (I forgot the name... "Craft Power stone"?).

Well, ehrm. Wrong forum, but I couldn't resist:

House Rules for Item Creation:

Craft Single Use Item:The five feats Scribe Scroll, Brew Potion, Encode Stone, Scribe Tattoo, and Create Infusion are combined into one. You must still meet the requirements to produce the psecific item types (for example, 3rd level to Brew a potion)
Craft Minor Mystical Item: Items less than 7500 gp;
Replaces Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Universal Item, and Craft Crystal Capacitator
Craft Medium Mystical Item:Replaces Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Universal Item, Craft Rod, Forge Ring, and Craft Crystal Capacitator. Items less than 30,000 gp. (Prerequisite: Craft Minor Mystical Item)
Craft Major Mystical Item:Replaces Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Universal Item, Craft Rod, Forge Ring, Create Portal and Craft Crystal Capacitator. Any non-Epic item of the types listed. Must be 12th level spellcaster with Craft Medium Mystical Item.
Craft Mystical Arms and Armour:Replaces both Craft Psionic Arms and Armour, and Craft Magical Arms and Armour.
Craft Staff and Wand: Replaces Craft Wand, Craft Dorje, Craft Drilbu, and Craft Staff. In order to create a staff you must still be at least 12th level.

I changed so that some feats/items would get used. Did anybody see any PCs taking Craft Rod? I also thought Craft Staff was rather weak. Forge Ring was so expensive for the good rings so you took it and used it once or twice...Hardly a lot of mileage. Most players went for some metamagical feat instead at those levels.

Also note that Bruce Cordell's fixes for psionics in If Thought Could Kill & Mindscapes: a new power point progression, based off the wizard spells/day (a bit higher than the current progression). IMC psions get a bonus psionic/meta psionic/item creation feat at 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th et cetera, but keep the original power point progression (I've also added quite a few psionic feats and made a number of powers into feats instead).

I'd agree with "scrap psionic combat", as well. If anything use the mindscapes system, it's much better.
