Psionic Artificer

Hanali

First Post
I bought the Magic of Eberron book and saw a Psionic Artificer as a seperate class.

Question is why be a regular Artificer?

For what I have seen from the Artificers in my game Psion spells are SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL!

Ectoplasmic Entangle is insane... no save tangle. Right now in my campaign they have like 40 of these scolls.

Not to mention the d12 healing scrolls, sure they take the damage but Bio Transfer (Think that is the name) heals them right back up.

Side question, How long does it take to make a level 1 scroll?

Thanx

Same it takes for any other magic item: 1 day per 1000 gp market price, minimum 1 day.

Technically though, 8 hours. I mean, the rules state you can only work on item creation 8 hours /day.

If you're making an item that only takes 1 day to make, you can theoreticallly still adventure after those 8 hours :-p

Entangling Ectoplasm: Level 1, Close range, ranged touch, entangles a Medium target for five rounds.
Entangle: Level 1, Long range, 40 ft radius spread, entangles everyone unless they succeed on a save (and even then they're hampered while in the area), lasts at least a minute.

Which one is more powerful, again?

And Body Adjustment: 2nd or 3rd level (depending on class), heals the manifester for 1d12 hp. Compared to clerical healing spells... this doesn't even come close. Note that it's on yourself only, so a "scroll" (I assume you mean Power Stone, which is the psionic equivalent of a scroll) would only be useful to someone with psionic powers himself. And if you want to make it a psionic tatoo (so someone else can use it), it costs double on account of the Personal range. Would you rather pay 50 gp for a potion of cure light wounds (healing 1d8+1 hp, average 5.5) or 800 gp for a tatoo of Body Adjustment (healing 1d12 hp, average 6.5)? Heck, for 800 gp you can get a potion of cure serious wounds (healing 3d8+5, average 18.5) and still have money to spare for a potion of cure light wounds!

Sure there are areas where psionics are more powerful than magic, but healing sure ain't it.

Yes. That's very clever. No one's ever pulled that one before -- and managed to remain in the game.

Honestly, I'm not sure what the point of a psionic artificer is. I guess I just assumed that the default "magic/psionic transparency" rule was in effect in Eberron. That'd mean an Artificer wouldn't have any problem crafting psionic items, anyway.

Of course, I've always assumed that "magic/psionic transparency" would be a misnomer if the reduntant "psicraft/spellcraft" and "use psionic/magic device" skill pairs were left separate, and combined them appropriately.

The way I understand psionics-magic transparency, it refers to magic resistance and spell resistance, and how effects stack. It doesn't affect skills and feats, for example -- thus the UMD and UPD skills, and Craft Wondrous Item and Craft Universal item.

P.S. Mercule, noticed on the EN World map you were from C.R. Same here...

I had a suspicion that was the intent, but it never made sense to me. Really, there shouldn't be any more similarity of effect between arcane and divine magic than with psionics and one of those.

Cool. I seem to recall that there are a handful or two of us around town. I've run into one or two in Barnes & Noble, though I don't remember their handles. Either there aren't any "get togethers" or I just never hear about them, though.

MarkAHart is correct. Also, it should be noted that Keith recommends the semi-transparent path. Dispel magic and the like works on psionics, but at a penalty.
