psionic prestige class

First Post
I think that this is the right place for a prc, would like some feedback, preferably constructive of course ;) It is somewhat similar to the metamind in the psionic handbook, but as that class it terminally unplayable I took a crack at it.

METAPSYCHIC

Hit Die: d6
Requirements
To qualify to become a metapsychic, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Manifesting: Ability to manifest six different powers from one discipline.
Psicraft: 6 ranks.
Knowledge (psionics): 6 ranks.
Feats: Inner Strength, Talented, Trigger Power

Class Skills
The metapsychic’s class skills are Alchemy (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (any) (Int), Knowledge (psionics), Psicraft (Int), and Remote View (Int) plus any others from their previous main discipline path.

Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier.

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the metapsychic prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Metapsychics gain no proficiency in any weapon or armor.

Power Points and Powers Discovered: Metapsyhics gain new power points and discover new powers as if they had gained a level in psion or psychic warrior (whichever they had levels in, if both players choice). Psionic attack and defense modes are discovered as though the character were a psychic warrior of the same level as the prestige class (characters do not forget previously discovered attack and defense modes). Metapsychics gain bonus power points based on the key ability score for their primary ability. If the character previously could not gain bonus power points for high ability scores (as is the case for psychic warriors), he now chooses a primary discipline and can gain bonus power points based on the related ability score (see Table: Psion Bonus Power Points). As they are very specialized they also gain extra powers based on the table below.

Table: The Metapsychic
Base
Class Attack Fort Ref Will
Level Bonus Save Save Save Special
1st +0 +0 +0 +2 Trigger Power, Specialization, Power 0, 1
2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 Power 0,1,2, Apotheosis 0
3rd +1 +1 +1 +3 Trigger Power, Power 1,2,3
4th +2 +1 +1 +4 Power 1,2,3. Apotheosis 1
5th +2 +1 +1 +4 Trigger Power, Power 1,2,3
6th +3 +2 +2 +5 Power 0,1,2,3,4, Apotheosis 2
7th +3 +2 +2 +5 Trigger Power, Power 2,3,4
8th +4 +2 +2 +6 Power 2,3,4,5, Apotheosis 3
9th +4 +3 +3 +6 Trigger Power, Power 2,3,4,5
10th +5 +3 +3 +7 Power 3,4,5,6, Apotheosis 4

Psicrystal: Levels in metapsychic stack with levels of psion for determining psicrystal powers.

Specialization: When this class is first gained the psion or psychic warrior must choose one discipline. From then on no powers from other disciplines can be chosen but those already known are not lost.

Trigger Power: Each time this feat is gained, he or she chooses a power of level 0 to 3 that he or she can attempt to manifest for free. Only powers from the characters specialty may be chosen.

Power: Every level powers of certain levels are gained in addition to the normal amount gained from their previous class.

Apotheosis 0,1,2,3,4: The metapsychic gains the spell-like ability to manifest his or her powers as though using the Trigger Power feat instead of selecting specific powers. This ability can only be used with the specialized discipline. The number represents what level of powers is able to be used in this fashion. If trigger power has been chosen with one of the powers in that level then the character gains the spell-like ability to use that power for free automatically once per day.

Does this mean that your PrC grants extra Powers known directly, in addition to advancing the character as a Psion (and thereby granting more Powers known indirectly)?

If so, it is O V E R P O W E R E D. Literally. :p

If not, what does it mean?

yep, thats what it means, they give up the ability to ever gain powers outside of one discipline, but they gain a few more powers in that single discipline. Although, none of the bonus ones are above 6th. They wind up with a total of 3-0's, 6-1's, 8-2's, 8-3's, 5-4's, 3-5's, 1-6's.

I wanted them to basically have a lot of powers from just the single discipline. I could cut this down by a few, can you think of a better way to show it? It should probably wind up more along the lines of 4-0's, 6-1's, 6-2's, 5-3's, 5-4's, 3-5's, and 2'6's. That way they would have a good variety of powers, but incredibly incredibly narrow in focus. ;)

How about this:

Power: Each level beyond the first that a 'd' appears on the psions list for a power level an extra 'd' is added to that list up to a maximum of 4 d's.

That way it gives the extra powers to show extra push towards this discipline, they come slowly, and there are never an incredibly large number. Is that better?

I don't like the d6 hit points. It should stay d4 like a standard psion.

The requirements are a touch low for my taste. Most characters should qualify for this after 3rd level.

I think the apotheosis ability is overpowered. It could probably be stripped with no replacement.

You need more class skills. Remote View should be removed if you're playing 3.5 (like Scry was). You could probably keep the class skill list the same as a psion of the type of the character's discipline.

d6 hd because either a psion or a psychic warrior can take it, figured a middle ground would be all right.

Requirements are 6 powers in one discipline (all or very close to it for the character), 12 skill points (albiet to skills that might be gotten anyway), and 3 different feats (2 of which do nearly nothing, and the third which will become almost useless later on). What other requirments could be tacked on?

yeah, the character class is meant to be able to be taken first at 4th level, earlier than most, but not all, and not horrible I would hope ;)

Apotheosis is the main part of the class, much like the metamind in the psihandbook. Perhaps there could be some sort of additional cost to go with it (minor though), maybe the check for it could be 2 points higher. That would make it significantly more difficult.

METAPSYCHIC

As they are very specialized they also gain extra powers based on the table below.

7th +3 +2 +2 +5 Trigger Power
8th +4 +2 +2 +6 Apotheosis 3
9th +4 +3 +3 +6 Trigger Power
10th +5 +3 +3 +7 Apotheosis 4

Psicrystal: Levels in metapsychic stack with levels of psion for determining psicrystal powers.

Specialization: When this class is first gained the psion or psychic warrior must choose one discipline. From then on no powers from other disciplines can be chosen but those already known are not lost.

When used this ability requires a roll 2 points higher (ie a first level power requires a 15). If trigger power has been chosen with one of the powers in that level then the character gains the spell-like ability to use that power for free automatically once per day.

Hopefully it is much better now ;) any comments about the revised version?

As it is supposed to be taken by both psions and psychic warriors it is hard to pick out skills to require. The need to specialize so heavily seems like a huge drawback, which is the flavor of the class and powers the new abilities.

Probably going to wind up testing this out in a campaign sometime soon, so one last bump for people to tell me which parts need to be fixed or altered ;) Thank you all!
