Psionic Tattoo Question

Here is the following situation. You have a character who has a Tattoo of Body Adjustment who is brought down to 0 hit points. They use their last action to tap the tattoo. The cure effects of the spell do not kick in for a full round, and during that time the tapper is hit down to the dying state (-5). Now, after the full round, does the tapper get the healing benefits of the spell?

Why doesn't it take effect for a full round?

Unless I'm missing something, Psionic Tattoo effects take place immediately unless specified otherwise, just like drinking a potion.

Even so, the effect would still go off because it targets the user as a Psychometablic power and he's still alive at a -5.

Greg

addendum - since the user is tapping while at 0, he will take 1 point of damage for taking an action (unless he successfully uses Autohypnosis, but that's another issue). That puts him at -1, which would be instantly raised by 3d6 points of healing.

Another technicality. Since Body Adjustment has three different effects, the crafter of the tattoo has to decide in advance which effect is in this incarnation of the Psionic Tattoo at the time of scribing. Thus he could either make it +3d6 of heal, or the bonuses to save vs poison or disease.

The effect would not go off right away because the manifestation time of that power is a full round.

Where is the rule that states the choice of the power must be made during craft time? I believe this is true, but I cannot find where this is actually stated.

My main concern is if this tattoo effect requires consciousness from the user at the time the power manifests.

This situation actually occrued. To make things go quickly, I ruled that the effect did not take place, but I would like to know the right thing to do next time a situation like this occurs.

Use same rules for potions. For instance, if a wizard makes a potion of resist elements, he has to pick the element, so he has to make a potion of resist fire, etc.

PS I a psion makes a tattoo of body adjustment (heal ability damage), do they have to pick which ability is healed? That could be funny, and give Seer-run psi shops a new source of income.

"Uh, what's this tattoo do again?"

I remember it being in the section on potions in the DMG.

It's in the "Scribe Tattoo" Feat Description:
From the SRD:
When you create a psionic tattoo, you make any choices that you would normally make when manifesting the power.
So, for those with variable effects, you need to decide at time of creation which effect will be manifested.

No. If you're conscious when you activated it, then go unconscious, the effect has already triggered, and after one round, the healing takes place. Remember, you're releasing energy stored within the tattoo, and not manifesting the power yourself.

Of course, it's worth noting that a character can activate an incapacitated ally's Psionic Tattoo as a full-round action that provokes an AOO (the rule is in the section of the rules describing Psionic Items).

Or, the wearer can make an Intelligence check vs DC13 to get a hint as to the tattoos function. (also in the section that discusses Psionic Items)
