[Psionics] Full support?

I think Johnny hit the nail on the head. Psionics is very much a "like it" or "hate it" subject for many DMS. I think WOTC took the smart approach. As it stands, Eberron already has more psionic support than any other WOTC setting since Dark Sun. Personally, I'm surprised it had as much as it did.

Just wait. You can bet we'll be seeing a Sarlona/psionics suppliment eventually.

Personally, I found the amount of psionics in Eberron just perfect (this from a huge Dark Sun fan). With psionics off in the shadows (i.e. away from Khorvaire), its remoteness and its use by offworlder types lends a "dark air of mystery" feel to the whole mind-art on Eberron. In other words, its got flava!

Time will tell how much Eberron-psionics (Eberronics?) will see print in the future. I wonder if the new formats in Dragon and Dungeon provide for the kind of world-specific, psionic-specific info for Eberron. psionics in Eberron? I am also really excited about the new supplements for Eberron to see how they will develop the world and how much psionics will see print.

Realistically, psionics in 3.5e is a fringe item at best. As such, the best you can hope for from WotC is fringe support.
According to some sources of mine, 3.0 Psionics and the XPH are the best-selling hardcover books after the core three. Maybe my information is wrong, but if it isn't, that hardly seems "fringe" to me. :)

I agree, it would have been nice if WotC had included just a little more psionic information in relation to Eberron. A psionic organization in Khorvaire, with a corasponding psionic NPC, and maybe a psionic feat or two, would have been nice. I don't think that would have harmed added to much to the page count.

Personaly though, I don't have a problem with the amount material included. Theres a race in the XPH that screems for inclution in Eberron, the Half-Giant. ;-) I have a psionic PC in my Eberron campaign, and I plan on incoperation the stuff from Hyperconscious in the game. I don't think that'll be a problem.

My view is that we already have one awesome heavily psionic setting: Dark Sun. It takes magic and turns it on its ear. In any case, I like that psionics are planned into the setting from the start, but not required. The majority of campaigns I've run there has been little interest in psionics. In my current Ravenloft campaign I have a player who plays a psion. But he's really the only one interested. Therefore, unless I'm running Dark Sun, I like the option that Eberron gives. I can make psionics as heavy as I want or as light as I care.

Me, I'm glad for what we have. Some books, it gets relegated to a sidebar or ignored alltogether. It's like "you can do what you want in the privacy of your own setting, but don't make us look at your dirty psionics." ;)
Like the old Forgotten Realms Adventures book that said there was No Psionics! in the realms after the Time of Troubles? Which was immediately followed by a Psionicist in Undermountain, Psionic Drow in the Dark Elf novels, Cadderly becoming the chosen of Deneir and gaining half the powers in the Complete Psionics handbook. :D

I think Eberron has plenty of opportunity for psionic development;

With the Kalashtar entering Khorvaire, I would assume they are teaching as they go. They know that one day the Inspired will turn their attention to Khorvaire. Their best students? A hidden valley of golden haired Halflings who ride Ti-Khana Raptors(See Amberhair Halflings in Kingdoms of Kalamar and Fiend Folio). They have also discovered an unusual tribe of Blue goblins that have psionic potiential.

What if the people of Sarlona were not the first to be contacted by the Quori? There was another group of psionic humans who made the first contact, but soon realized that they had made a serious mistake with their new "friends" and they fough back, but lost their homeland and were forever changed by the taint of chaos. They are now known as Maenads, their ships can be encountered along any coastline in Khorvaire, but are most common in the Lhazaar Pricipalities. Their home island was destroyed by the Quori, their new homes are huge ships, piloted and kept conceiled by their Unbodied ancestors.

Everyone has read the stories of expeditions to Xen'Drik, but only a few realize that there have been expeditions from Xen'Drik! The last true decendants of the ancient giant kingdoms are the Half-Giants. But as they are exploring Khorvaire, they are realizing that these Humans may not be the enemy they once thought they were. Perhaps these humans can help them regain parts of their home lost to the Vermin races (Dromites, Thri-kreen, Neogi, Manscorpions, Abeil, Formians, Meenlock, Aranea and Chitines).

There was once an experiment done by the Inspired in Sarlona, an attempt to create a better "vessal", but the expeiment failed. The creations were found to be immune to Quori possession. These new creatures, called Elan, did find one use. The Inspired would grant "imortality" to their loyal (and valuable) servants. They serve the inspired as the Templars serve the Dragon Lords in Dark Sun. There are however two other sources of Elan in Sarlona. A rebel group managed to find out the secrets of rebirth and are now creating as many elan as they dare without the Inspired learning of them. The other are "spontanious" Elan, they are the decendants of the original Elan expeiments. No one as yet has figured exactly what triggers this in them.

When the Daelkyr invaded, there were some who willingly joined their invasion. One was an outcast clan of Dwarves, now know as Duergar. The others were humans, many of which were sent back Xoriat to become "better" servants. These are now known as Githyanki and Githzerai and serve as the martial troops to their Illithid masters. It is belived that there is a huge army of these races within Xoriat and if they ever launch an Incursion into Eberron, it could be the end of the world.

One thing to remember is that the basic policy of WotC is that the only things completely supported in all supplements are the 3 core books (PHB, MM & DMG). They won't assume anyone picked up any particular supplement when they pick up another, unless they are directly related (for example, Forgotten Realms supplements assume the Forgotten Realms campaign setting).

Look at the various "splatbook" feats. If a book decides to use them, it doesn't reference the splatbook, it completely reprints it.

Actually, the Psionics books have been the source of the most bending of this policy. Some of the campaigns or other supplements have had sections on incorporating psionics in those books.

Personally, I expect in the future you'll see a sourcebook for Eberron that specifically ties Eberron and the XPH together. That way it's related to both, and WotC can assume if you buy it you'll have both.

Here is a quick list of the primary Psionic information in the book. This list is likely missing information from the regional descriptions.

Psionic Races
• Kalashtar, pg 17
• Inspired, pg 290
• Quori, pg 296
Regions
• Adar, pg 24, 221
• Riedra, pg 26, 221
• Dal Quor, the Region of Dreams, pg 94

NPCs
• Halharan, pg 40
• Xor’chylic, pg 167

Feats
• Strong Mind, pg 61

Organizations with Psionics
• The Path of the Light, pg 71
• Dreaming Dark, pg 240

Items
• Quori Embedded Shards, pg 263
- Aura mask
- Crystalline Eye
- Ectoplasmic Armor
- Ectoplasmic Fist
- Faceted Persona
- Multifaceted Persona
- Pathfinder
- Shadowsight
- Talent
• Quori and Eberron Shards, pg 265
• Breastplate of Kamvuul Norek, pg 272
• Psychic Disruptor, pg 273

It seems to me that for a campaign not centered around Psionics, that it is well covered.

Well, it looks like I was wrong about the lack of Psionic organizations! And they even have psionic items!

I dislike being wrong. ;)
