Psionics getting more complicated?

No, in April.

I think I like the idea of psionic focus. The high skill check means that achieving the focus is much easier for higher lvl psions and psychic warriors, and lord knows it will be easier than keeping track of each feat's PP requirements.

You playtesting this one P-Kitty?

As far as Focus goes, I really like it. It's simple enough, and it's a good balancing factor used to counter the fact that psionic feats are better than mundane feats.

I'm much more interested in Green Ronin's Psychic Handbook available any day now...

I'm looking forward to this as well, although with Green Ronin's track record for keeping to schedule, the Expanded Psionics Handbook will probably be out first anyway. :D

Btw meant to apologize for the mistake P-kitty! Thanks for correcting it.

Dave,

I think we can count on this book staying the course however. Trust me, GR has nothing on the constant bouncing around on the schedule books that S&SS has.

I like the focus better than the minimum points for the feats. It seems like a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, it's just a small step. The 3e psi rules were better than 2e, but still a little wonky. They just don't feel like they fit in well with the other magical abilities already in the system.

I think my main complaint is with the psycic combat system. I didn't like it in 2e and I wasn't pleased to see a revised and updated version that was basically the exact same thing in 3e. I hope that it gets revised or maybe scrapped all together in the 3.5 version.

The Mind Mage prestige class in Dragon a few issues ago was the first look into the revised psionic system. It didn't say anything about that classes psionic combat, making me assume that psionic combat is something that's far easier to determine and is probably based on will saves.

It has been stated a bunch of times that they'd be changing psionic combat and not having it cause ability damage. Yet it was also said by Bruce Cordell that it's different from the system in Mindscapes.

Anyone remember what issue that was, with the Mind Mage? I must have missed it.

The Mind Mage is in Issue #313, in the article "Brain Power: Secrets of the Illithids", along with Psi-Spellcasting Feats like Agitated Causticity, which enhances the damage acid-based spells by agitating acidic substances, also allowing the attacks to reduce Armor Class.

Thorian, ALTERNITY Mindwalking: A Guide to Psionics actually had a working psionic combat system. The premise was you couldn't be forced into psionic combat, so there was no penalty for not using defense modes.

There also wasn't an annoyingly complicated chart.
