Psionics Module: How soon is too soon?

Who else want the psionics playtest module sooner rather than later? That is assuming that it doesn't come out in the core game. (I doubt it.)

I also doubt it will come out as core - especially one of the core aspects of Psionics is to be different than magic.

I want it yesterday, please.

(by which I mean I want it so fast as to defy the laws of physics and already be here. Not, as you might have thought, that I just want to use the old ruleset from a figurative "yesterday" meaning the past)

If they can create a system that gives a mentally empowered character the freedom he deserves, integrates it with all the existing rules, models the basic pop culture expectations of psychic power, and is reasonably balanced, that's probably the one sure way of getting me to buy this thing.

I'd like it in "core". All power sources and methods of casting "magic" should be in the core.

Not sure how you squeeze all that into the first PHB though.

While I too would like it in the core, I don't think it's going to happen. Hopefully we won't have to wait more than a year for it.

I agree that psionics are unlikely to be in the initial player's handbook, and I'm ok with that. I do think they have a place in D&D however, and would expect to see a psionics supplement for players and DMs within the first year. Hopefully they remain quite distinct from magic. If possible I would like to go back to some of the unpredictability of 2e psionics without getting overly broken/unbalanced.
