[Psionics] Suggestion (psionic) = Aversion?

shadowlight

First Post
I'm looking at the descriptions of Suggestion (Psionic) and Aversion, and it seems to me that the effects of Aversion can be duplicated with Suggestion (Psionic) (Basically you just "suggest" in a creative way that they not do some course of action or stay away from an object or person).

Can anyone give me an example of something you can do with Aversion bur not with Suggestion (Psionic).

Aversion can be used against animals and the dumber aberrations -- it's not [language-dependant]. It can be used against goblin guards with whom you don't necessarily share a language. It can be used against people who are unaware of you (scouts, etc.).

They are otherwise quite similar.

Hmm... the unaware part is probably pretty significant... I think I'll just stick with Suggestion though since Psions' known powers are so limited

Psions aren't really that limited. They get 36 powers by level 20. A wizard has 43 + Int spells, not counting cantrips, from his class. Sure, the wizard can buy scrolls and transcribe them, but the base isn't that far away (and those + Int are first level, they don't make that much of a difference). The psion can take other powers (either cross-list) with his feats (and he gets bonus feats just like a wizard), so a typical psion has 38-40 powers at 20th. And those powers are incredibly versatile - you can take one energy spell or two (maybe energy missile and then energy burst) which will take the place of all those evokations the wizard has, one dominate power for several dominate spells the wizard has, one animal affinity for 6 animal buff spells, and so on. Those psions can go a long way with their powers.

But your decision is a good one, for another reason: you can maximize your versatility by taking powers that are different. As you said, you can use suggestion instead of aversion in many situations, so unless you want to be insured for the cases suggestion won't work in, you are better off with another power.
