Psions are Broken

In our current campaign, I'm playing a Cleric7/PsyWarrior2/SacredExorcist2. I took the PsyWarrior levels near the very beginning, knowing I'd only take a couple of levels.

We had already removed the Psychic Combat from the rules because of the inequity of Psionic Monsters having effectively infinite power points, and the fact that it made low-level psions and psywarriors much more a liability than an asset. We also adjusted the number of psionic power points upward slightly for both psions and psywarriors. If we hadn't made these changes, I'd never have dared take a psionic class and multiclass at all...

I'd love to see some alternate ways of handling the psionic combat rules so that low level characters aren't easy victims of anything psionic that comes along. I think Malhavoc Press is supposed to be coming out with some additional psionic materials in the next few months, part of which will be an alternative to the official psionic combat rules, but I don't know what type of changes they're considering.

There is no cure for stunning in the Core rules (or any offical rules that I know of).

Freedom spell?

Freedom

Abjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 9
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: See text
Target: One creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes

The subject is freed from spells and effects that restrict his movement. To free someone from the imprisonment spell, the character must know that person's name and background, and the character must cast this spell at the spot where that person was entombed.

The expanded text in the PHB specifically mentions "stunning."

I think that they are broken. I think overall a little weak, but not a big problem. I think ITCK does a good job of fixing things.

The thing is what they have is mostly weak stuff, and then a few stand out things that are just too good. And in my mind that isn't balanced. It would be like if the wiz/sor spell listed consisted of reams of spells that helped them scratch various itches they couldn't reach on their body for different durations, and then each spell level also had rule the universe from beyond the grave I-IX.

Compared to a Sorceror or Wizard of the same level (lets say 8th), the Psion is woefully inadequate.

8th Level Psion: 6 0 level, 4 1st level, 3 2nd level, 2 3rd level and
1 4th level "powers" known. Castable at will up to the 27 power point limit (3 4th level powers = 27 power points).

8th Level Wizard: Knows an infinite number of spells. Can cast 4 0 level, 4 1st level, 3 2nd level, 3 3rd level, and 2 4th level spells
per day.

8th Level Sorceror: Knows 8 0 Level, 5 1st Level, 3 2nd Level, 2 3rd Level, and 1 4th Level spells. Can cast 6 0 level, 6 1st Level, 6 2nd level, 5 3rd Level and 3 4th Level spells per day.

First off: 3 4th-level powers = 21 power points. It's 2x level MINUS 1 (otherwise, a 1st-level power would cost 3 power points.)

Adding the minimal bonus power points (and spells) these guys have, you are at 31 pp for the Psion, 6/7/7/5/3 for the sorcerer, and 4/5/4/3/2 for the wizard.

Possible combinations the Psion can use include 11/1/2/2/2, 42/0/0/0/0 11/31/0/0/0, 11/0/1/0/4, 11/2/0/3/2, 11/1/10/0/0, 11/1/0/6/0, 11/5/3/2/1 (the last one using the points how he gets them). If he distributes evenly, he'll be able to manifest less powers than the arcanists can cast, but he has complete freedom on how to use them.

Also, they can choose psionic feats that are in use as long as he has a certain amount of power points left (so they're like spells that you only cast once per day and that last all day, plus they all share the same slot).
