psychic warrior spell question...

Dissolving Weapon, a 2nd level psionic warrior spell says..."As dissolving touch, except your weapon is charged with acid until you make a successful attack."
Does this mean that a psion could cast this on his weapon and then use it any time...even say, a year or more later? Until he makes a successful attack.
If so, I mean, sheesh.
My PC in a campaign I'm planning on running wants to wield dual short swords with this spell. Combine that with metapsionic feats that maximize damage for only 4 power points and the feat that lets him cast at 2 levels higher, he can, at level 10, cast this spell on his weapon to do 6d6 maximized damage (36). Two swords like this...well, you can see how I'd have a problem with balance. However, I don't like disallowing powerful things my players dream up.
Maybe we're wrong and he can't do this? Let me know

It sounds about right, but I would probably rule that the acid denatures when the weaon is placed in a sheath or dropped on the ground. Then again, the psychic warrior would be burning through a number of power points (10 per shot) to do this, of their approximate tenth level total of 42 power points. Also, it takes four rounds (or two with the psinoic meditation feat) in order to focus and then charge, so it's not likely to be done during combat.

Sounds like a high cost/high reward sort of situation.

Still though, as mentioned above as soon as those swords touch something it should be discharged, bit of sloppy wording in the power there.

Having to carry around your two weapons until they are discharged and only getting 1 use out of each and it taking half of your pp for the day makes it not seem too bad really.

as far as i'm aware the maximizing affects the acid damage only, not the weapon damage. because it's maximizing the spells effects, not the weapon's.

dissolving touch specifically says it denatures 1 round after use
dissolving weapon says that it lasts until you make a successful attack
to me this implies that you could sheath the sword.
hell, you could even swing and miss a few times and it would still work.
by a strict reading, you could wash the sword and it'd still be there, since it's not "really" acid. it's magic...er...psionics.
this spell isn't all that powerful (not brokenly so) if you factor in the power points it would take to really make it hurt, but if the acid can just sit on a weapon forever, what's to stop someone from having a boatload of weapons prevenomed?
