[Ptolus] Overland travel from Dohrinthas to Ptolus

Whizbang Dustyboots

Gnometown Hero
I've got a group of PCs I need to move from Dohrinthas (following them completing the Freeport Trilogy and Vengeance in Freeport) to Ptolus and plan to do a classic caravan guards adventure, including stops at a few villages and small cities along the way (like the "before" version of the village from Demon God's Fane). But before they can deal with orc nomads, a traveling halfling circus and the mystery of who's really taking down caravans, I need to know how freakin' long this trip is supposed to be.

So, Ptolusites? How far is it from Dohrinthas (where political troubles with follow them) to Ptolus and how long should an overland journey take?

Thanks.

Well, they could travel up river to Slune and then head east-northeast. That looks to me to be around three hundred miles, give or take. Alternatively, they could head east along the coast first, looping around the Vantaran Peaks and visiting three or four cities along the way. Depending on the route, that could be in the region of eight hundred miles.

How long these journeys might take depends on the number of smaller towns and villages you place along the way and what transpires en route generally, of course. The shortest of these two routes would take a caravan more than twenty days, even if the entire journey were along a flat road (and caravans would take the most expeditious route possible). But with weather, events and encounters to factor in, as well as stopovers, I think the shortest journey could easily take two months.

All this is assuming a conventional, mundane caravan.
