Pulp Cthulhu no longer d20

First Post
It looks like the much pushed back Pulp Cthulhu d20 has been changed to a stand alone BRP book with no d20 content. Surprise, Surprise!

Boy this is the last straw for me. I am not going to buy another Chaosium product. As if I could find one of their products at my gaming store to begin with. Their total non-support of Cthulhu d20 makes me sick. You would think that they would have at least tried to capitalize on the great WOTC Cthulhu d20 book. But they are not known for doing the right thing. Sinking a ton of money in a CCG for one.

Well, there are many people who consider BRP highly superior for Cthulhu, however.

Of course, there are also enough who prefer the d20 version. :D

I haven't bought any Chaosium product since the d20 GM Screen because of their lack of d20 support. They have dual stated stuff but it is reprinted material. Nothing new but some d20 stats (And half ass at that).

On the other hand, if someone runs a game of Cthulhu (doesn't matter what version), I will gladly play. I don't think either version is more superior than the other.

Peace and smiles :)

I prefer BRP to D20 for playing Cthulhu, although I don't think either game fully catches the true feel of Lovecraft.

Personally, I am just as happy that Chaosium is taking back the reins.

I really don't think the _system_ is (BRP Percentile, or d20) is what makes the game *feel* any certain way: that's up to the storyteller. The storyteller we have is awesome, and he's said he'd rather use the old system than the d20, (actually, he finds the concept of d20 Cthulhu disgusting and he thinks feats are a bad addition to Cthulhu, but he's welcome to that opinion) but even he admits that tellign the story is whats central, not how actions get resolved...

I do think it sucks that Chaosium has pulled out of Cthulhu d20, however, I think most of the material should be resuable: Cthulhu is so _not_ combat oriented, that for the 1 thing that the players have to fight during a session (if any), the ST can just whip up stats before hand, and go on using his old BRP modules: it's not like the descriptions need to change because the system did...

Source?

I was just over at Chaosium.com and saw no mention of this. If it's true, I'm dissapointed but will end up buying the product anyway. With the conversion giude and new d20 rules included in HPL's Arkham it shouldn't be too difficult to wrangle out a d20 conversion to any BRP pulp material they release.

I prefer BRP Cthulhu to d20, but I was really looking forward to using Pulp Cthulhu d20 on my Cthulhuphobic group as a "gateway drug" to BRP Cthulhu.

I'm curious about what exactly is this book supposed to contain? There is already plenty of CoC stuff about the 20s (the prime pulpy era). Are they new, more cinematic, BRP rules or something? Is it more of a setting thing?

Desperate Heroes Fight the Good Fight!

In 1933, the world lies in economic ruin and political chaos. A brave few fight a secret war on behalf of humanity. Alone or in small bands, anonymous heroes battle unspeakable cults, mad scientists, and their monstrous allies. Daring men and women are all that stand between us and those who seek to unleash dark horrors upon our planet. Their hard-won victories may yet save us...

This is their story.

PULP CTHULHU presents background and adventures for the decade of the 1930s, melding the classic Chaosium CALL OF CTHULHU setting with the new CALL OF CTHULHU d20 rules from Wizard's of the Coast. It provides guidelines for the use of cults, mad scientists, and pulp heroes in a classic game of Lovecraftian Horror. It explains how to create secret societies of Investigators devoted to fighting the Mythos, and details three such groups, ready-made for dropping into any ongoing CALL OF CTHULHU campaign that has reached the fateful year of 1929. Finally, it provides three adventures involving pulp action in 1930s settings, including Shanghai.

PULP CTHULHU is fully compatible with upcoming version of CALL OF CTHULHU published by Wizard's of the Coast, produced under license from Chaosium Inc.
