Has anyone come up with a pure Shapeshifter class? Full 20 level progression. Something like the Warlock, nice tight focus on one ability type...

No, but I've been meaning to for a while. I was going to call it the 'shifter', but that could be a little confusing now...

If I ever get around to it, I would descibe exactly what his ability does, rather than basing it off polymorph. Polymorph seems to be a moving target :D

Presumably, at low levels he would gain the ability to shift into small animals, then larger animals, then vermin, elemental outsiders etc as he progressed through levels. Like a druid's wildshape progression, but starting earlier (and weaker) and finishing up stronger.

At higher levels, he would also gain the ability to choose on an item by item basis how equipment was affected (like greater wildshape in 3.0) and possibly take on aspects of creatures only.

I think it may be better to have a shapeshifter race. The skills based on hd and everything else would have to come from the class the player choses. The idea of a class that only deals with shapeshifting is not very appealing to me. I could help with a creature/ player race that you could use however. Just ask.

Serious shapeshifting is a bit good for a racial ability (the shifters in Eberron are probably about as far as you can go without introducing an LA).

Ther's somthing in the book complete arcane that is simular. It's called somthin' like a transformigist. I'll have dicechild post on it. He has my book right now.

I've been thinking of making a shapeshifting class around the runethane's (from Arcana Unearthed/Evolved) rune mechanic. I'd prolly shy away from taking the forms of actual creatures, and instead just give set abilities, and then just show how some creature shapes could be imitated.

So far the working idea in my head is a combination of Traits that can be applied to any form the Shapeshifter is in and true alternate forms.
