I am looking for a pre-made module or some ideas to create my own module where the ranger of my group is significantly in the spotlight. I’m hoping for something with lots of tracks to follow, animals to interact with, and orcs and giants (the ranger’s favored enemies) to fight. A few scenes where he gets to sneak around and snipe or gather information would be great too.
My party is down to two PCs – One is a half-drow/wood elf fighter8/barbarian2 and has been in the spot light a lot lately. The other PC started the campaign much later, and has not had a chance to really shine yet. I’d like to make it his turn to do so. He is a wild elf ranger (TWF) 8.
The party is helping some halfings deal with some bees owned by some giants right now as they are gathering money and information about Myth Drannor to repair an intelligent magical sword made ages ago by the elves. They will travel 60 miles back to Ordulin (Capital city of Sembia) to gather hirelings before venturing out to Myth Drannor (about 300+ miles [as the crow flies]) so there is lots of woods for wilderness adventures. Their reputation is shaky as it has become known that adventures that travel with them usually end up killed or M.I.A. They have helped a king and many royal families before – maybe one of them in Ordulin can give them a quest. They are very broke (the fighter/barb is in dept to the ranger – he spent all his money on a belt of giant strength and didn’t even buy himself a weapon [his previous weapon was broken] and then walked around the city begging for money and looking for people giving out free +1 falchions. It didn’t go over well with the shop keepers and the children that looked at him as a role model.).
One shopkeeper did give him a discount on his belt provided he do her a favor in the future. I was thinking about using “favor” hook to relive the fighter/barb of that obligation, meanwhile, the quest is really specked for a ranger. Something along the lines of “Sure glad I had this ranger friend with me or else I wouldn’t be able to fulfill this obligation and I’d be screwed.” Since the PCs have a tarnished reputation, I was thinking of them rescuing someone. Give them a chance to figure out how to keep the NPC alive until the destination.
