question about AD&D Core Rules 2.0 CD-ROM

I bought a version back in 1998 and absolutely loved the map making function. I recently purchased Campaign Cartographer 3 and I'm not interested in that level of detail or effort. I'm not a graphic design guy.
Here's my issue - when I load the CD into a computer with Windows 7, it loads everything but I get an error message when I try to save the map I'm making. If I rename it, it will save it. A couple times, the map was just completely erased and all the work I did wasn't saved.
Are these CDs just too outdated today to still function properly? All I really want it for is the map making function.
Any help is appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows of any map making alternatives that are simple, please let me know.
I don't consider Campaign Cartographer 3 simple. I'm just not into all the sheets and layers.
With my old CDs, I just clicked on a button and a city plopped down.

I had a similar problem, but was able to solve it by running the program as the administrator. Just right-click on the program in the Start Menu, and then "Run as Administrator". Click ok on the pop-up box and you should be good to go!

Have you tried running it in Windows 98 compatibility mode?

Guys I have tried it running as the adminstrator and it does not solve my problems. I have Windows Professional 7 and will try the two other solutions posted. Thanks. My fingers are crossed.

Also try installing it in a different directory than program files. Or save your maps under a different directory if that is possible. Newer Windows versions are really protective about files under program files directory.
