Question about Githzeria Rrakkma

Dagger75

Epic Commoner
Can non Githzeri go on these things? I can't find anything that says they can't but I was just wondering.

I have a plan to have my party learn about their new enemy by joining one of these hunting parties. Letting each of them control a few of the githzeri as they raid a small illthid encapment.

I don't see why not. Githzerai are Chaotic Neutral; there's nothing in their flavor text that suggests that they're as xenophobic as their githyanki cousins. It seems like a great adventure hook to have your PCs join a Rrakma band!

Githzerai society is split. Most are CN, many are LN. The source material conflicts itself over the alignment of rrakma; according to the XPH, it consists of monks, who would be LN, but earlier sources may indicate the opposite.

IMO, it's an expression of their racial history. While any githzerai might kill mind flayers and ally with anyone who isn't a githyanki to do so, this might not apply to rrakma. (To put it another way, think of a human going to the Elf Lands. It happens, it's just rare.)

Seems to me the PCs should be making Diplomacy checks :) Otherwise, they could only ally with a single befriended githzerai going on a non-rrakma flayer slayer expedition.

Though they're not violently xenophobic like the githyanki, the githzerai aren't exactly welcoming to non-githzerai. Expect them to ignore, avoid, or remain extremely cool to anyone they come across during Rrakkma who doesn't get in their way.

Now if they do see an advantage to working with someone else in order to fulfill their goals, they may go for it, but they'll remain less than chummy to those people. Don't expect them to accept non-githzerai, though they might form a sort of calm respect for someone that helps them and shows honor in the process, or shares a similar mindset (self sufficiency, internal control and will against external flux, hatred of mind flayers, and struggle against their misguided racial cousins the githyanki, etc).

Of note, those githzerai who are actual monks, hailing from a monastic environment in Limbo (where they live in self-imposed exile from the githzerai cities which fall under the strict but subtle control of Zaerith Menyar Ag Gith, the githzerai "wizard-king") are more liable to deal with non-githzerai, at least in my opinion. Githzerai from, or that have spent time in, Sigil's 'zerai racial enclave of Darkwell Court, are also a bit more likely to be comfortable dealing with non-githzerai.

The bond between rrakkma members is stronger than blood. Casual visitors need not apply.

If I may ask, where did you see this? I have checked Manuel of the Planes (3.0 ed) The Illitiad, Planescape and planewalker.com looking for more info on this ritual. If you have some other info that you found I would like to see it.

Let us know if you end up developing anything in that campaign that you'd like to sink back into that section on Planewalker :) We're always accepting new articles.

Hmmm. Where was I? IIRC, there's a great section on Githzerai on planewalker.com. Lemme go look:

...

Yah, here it is. http://www.planewalker.com/rrakkma/githzerai.php

It's in the article on githzerai taboos.

Great stuff. I'll be using it for my githzerai campaign.

Thanks. I have just started going there since my Planescape game started 4 weeks ago. I did searches, when to the encylopedia and clicked on "R" and found a small simple paragraph on this. Thought this was it. http://www.planewalker.com/encyclopedia/encyclopedia.php?intEntryID=1988

I keep finding new cool stuff there all the time.

Again thanks for the link :)
