Gremlins first appeared after Zach spilled water on his Mogwai, right?

Wrong there... When Zach spilled water over Gizmo the Mogwai, it created a handful of evil Mogwai. When someone fed those evil Mogwai after Midnight, they became Gremlins...
:D

ok then. i'm making the first appearance of the gremlin Castle Amber, 1981. if it appeared anywhere between there and MC5, let me know and i will add that too.
any idea if the fremlin appeared before greyhawk MC5?

Sometime in the early 80, Dragon Mag had a bunch of Gremlins in one of the April Fools Issues - can't remember which one.

All I remember is that they actually had a table of "Gremlin level advancement" that included old 1st Ed style names for each level. They included things like "Tek Sawj" and "Looie." And even had different names depending on if they were land, sea, or air based gremlins.

Fun stuff.

going a bit OT on my own thread...

you know, that was one of the things i always thought was cool about 1E. it's silly to have that as a mandatory title, but as a little side option it was always neat.

so no other ideas about the D&D origin of gremlins and fremlins? ;)

guess i will go with castle amber for the gremlin, and stick with MC5 for the fremlin, till i hear otherwise.

peace! :)
