Level Up (A5E) Question about Herbalism / Poisoner's Kit and Journeys

I don’t think it’s as rare as people think.
If your doing non stop adventuring in your campaign, then sure. But I feel that a good amount of games have breaks between adventurers or a bit of downtime periodically. And so yeah it’s wouldn’t be hard at all to have pockets full of poison or special herbs.

Yeah, if its useful stuff, and a player creates a ranger or druid (say) who has nothing better to do? Sure, they might try that will much of their downtime. I guess in that case I'd come up with an average gained and modify it by a single roll, rather than having them roll eight times for an eight-hour herb-hunt.

Over the years I've had at least seven or eight times where this particular issue's come up - players wanting to spike a water source to put an orc camp to sleep or strapping bags of poisonous plants to some animals staked out as bait for a rampaging manticore, etc....

(Hell, there were a couple of guys in one party who'd recently watched Reign of Fire and wanted to give a dragon diarrhea because they were convinced that dragon crap should be explosive. )

Wrt the orc camp thing, the allies did a thing in ww2 to stop axis saboteurs from traveling over parts of Africa where there were few people & very limited water sources that were pretty much required to avoid problems from not enough water. Instead of actually poisoning the water sources they would put up signs alerting of the poisoned water and send someone out every so often to drop off some dead animal bodies that were hunted through traditional means.

I'd suggest someone make a wisdom culture check or something and mention a labor intensive way of accomplishing it without industrial runoff levels of poison being needed if a player asked to poison more than just a simple well.
