Question about Melee Training

If, say, a Cavalier takes the Melee Training: Wisdom feat, does that mean that he can use a Wisdom roll for his powers instead of Strength?

Well, for his MBA, but since a lot of eClasses use MBA as 99% of their attacks... sure. Just be a Knight or a Slayer and it'll work fine.

No. Melee Training only affects melee basic attacks. It's useful if you want to make Slayer or Knight that's not strength-based, and if you're playing a non-strength based melee character who finds himself or herself making a lot of melee basic attacks (due to opportunity attacks, marking abilities, or attacks granted by another character's powers) without another way to use his or her primary stat[1], it can be useful.

[1] Some classes -- like the Essentials Rogue -- have the equivalent of a superior version of melee training 'baked in'. Some classes -- like the classic Paladin -- have at-will powers that can be used as a melee basic attack. And at least the swodmage has a class-specific feat that's superior to melee training if you happen to be a swordmage.

Melee Training works extra well if you have some way of substituting MBAs for RBAs -- for example with a Farslayer weapon.
