Question about mexican money

To be fair, that didn't happen in Mexico City, but in Uruapan. Sad thing is that it's starting to happen in some other states.
Twas yahoo!'s botch on the local.

I wonder if it was intended to be symbolic of the "decapitation" of the Drug Cartels, having had their leaders taken down? A hydra lashing out as its heads regrow.

Woo!! Just got back from Mexico City tonight. United Airlines was no fun at all....my flight went through Washington to get a transfer back to Canada, and instead of just transferring us, they made everyone get off and go through security again....very, very disorganized, and a lot of people, including myself, missed our transfers as a result, since we got to wait in line at security for 2 hours. :(

In any case......I had no idea how inexpensive it is to drink in Mexico....wow.

The city's definitely the roughest I've been to, aside from the parts of Detroit that I've seen. I generally stuck around the Pallenque though. We took a walking tour from there, along the Reforma, all the way to the presidential palace, and saw the Angel of Liberation, though it was under construction, saw the Monument to the Revolution, Diana the Huntress, Chapultepec Park, the Monument to Race (never learned what the purpose of that monument was), the church of Santo Domingo, and this other one that was of some native warrior with crouching jaguars upon the steps (can't remember the name), and a bunch of other stuff.

I was really nervous about going, but ended up having a great time, and am definitely glad I went. Didn't run into any problems, though I did get sick one of the nights. Not sure if it was the Tequila, sushi, or something else.

It was my first time in Mexico, and I can definitely say I'd like to go back to see more.

First of all, Banshee, glad you had fun in Mexico.

The purpose of that monument is to remember the natives that lived in Mexico (and some norhterns parts of Central America) before Cristopher Columbus came to America. Originally it was planned to be a museum, but later it was just turned into a big fountain.

I am currently in Chula Vista, CA, about 4 miles from Tiajuana. In the tourist areas, some places don't even take Mexican money (they're pretty rare). Most places prefer US even if they take Mexican.

But the correct answer is to use your credit card for everything. When using your cc for foreign currency, most cc companies get you one of the best current exchange rate found in that period. It's just a service they offer.

I have found in Canada, I can usually get about 3-5% better exchange than if I actually exchanged money.

Using a credit card is usually the safest, ... they get to charge some high fee that doesn't always show up on the receipt they give you.

I must say in my dozens of trips to Canada, I have never experienced this sort of thing. And the rates have beaten all others.
