Question about OGC, Wizards, and such. From a new guy.

I just want to clarify that I didn't suggest offering an advertizing opportunity to WotC. I only suggested asking for their permission. I don't think the advertizing angle would fly at all.
Sorry if I hadn't made myself clear: the "advertisement opportunity" was an idea by Morgenstern, and my remark in braclets was aimed at him.

OTOH, I was suggesting going for broke on asking for permission -- don't just ask for "compatible with SBG", ask for the use of the pricing system and being able to show your work too. If that fails, then fall back to the compatibility request. You never know what will be allowed.

I agre with this advice as far as how to go about asking WotC permission to do something.

As stated above below and in-between, consult a lawyer, WotC has been very good to the d20 community but that is because 99% know the rules, and obey the rules.

Good luck, and I like the idea of the book.

Sorry I have been conspiciously slient on this... Things have been in the works. I did ask WotC permissions, and I have been asked for a demo product. I have been busy working on that. (It is complete now) At this point, I feel I have a good chance at getting permission, with set guidelines, and a specific lincese.

Thank you all for your suggestions... Sometimes we need to think "Oh hell, what is the worse they can say? No??" more often.

Good for you!

And yes, any time someone is saying "You should go buy this guy's stuff, especially if you want to use my prduct to the fullest" you are advertising for them. Sure, its not a big glossy ad campaign, but its still positive buzz, and not entirely without value. And the value depends on how good your stuff is, which is why I say if you are really confident in it, you need to show it to them. Heck, you should pursue any excuse to show it to WotC. That's the sort of thing that opens doors for you later. Even the big boys get excited about a truely good product, and want to put their imprint on it.

Good luck with that license!
