Question about Polymorph any Object

rhammer2 said:
Any spell that is permanent in duration can be dispelled. For it to be immune to dispelling the spell would have to be instantaneous.

Hmm. Not good at all. Scary in fact.
If a permanent effect is dipellable then it can also be supressed by an Anti-Magic Field and detected by a Detect Magic.

Leads to some interesting insta-death trap ideas.

Thanks for the heads up about the inst vs permanent thing. :)

Buy a bunch of lyres of building and hire some minstrals who can read schematics or at least have them explaind to them. Lyre of building is fairly cheap useable once per week, every hour? of playing equals 100 men working for like 1 week, perform lyre checks allow you to play it for a continuous lenght of time past 1 hour.

I'ts based off the fabricate spell, bust a bunch of those through scrolls, staves, spells etc, and all you need is a rocky cliff face from which to gain the materials(rock) and you got yourself a castle.

I know it fits the genre to some degree but I think it was patton in WW2 who said only fools use a stationary fortress in modern warfare. The french found out how dumb it was when they got over run like they were school girls. Considering the magic, mosters etc. in a d&d game I think the same rules would apply. Castles etc, mainly for show and a base of opperations druing non war times a place to train etc., but all protection and warfare occures on the field in a semi mobile fashion.

What after that help crack I don't get even a thanks for the responce, but anyone could of come up with that crap kinda crack. And geez if you want responses on castle building for fun and profit maybe the title should be castle building quick cost no object, only qualified architects should apply, instead of poly any ?'s.

Now isn't that more entertaining than me just saying bump... cause you know I'd like to see some castle building responces myself, though I'd like to see economy plans as well.

You must not have read the beginning of this thread, because it was originally about Polymorph any Object.

And on the point of not getting a thank you, if your going to start bickering about any thanks for something, why dont you wait a few days to see if a responce is had, dont you think it possible that I wasnt able to get to a computer, or able to be on one long enough to reply.

I was looking to create it with spells, because they are generally cheaper than going and building/buying a magic item that I can only use for half an hour a week.

If any Mod has the time/inclination, could one of you change the title to something abit more fitting to the current topic of this thread.

Yeah I read the 1st part of your post but so what. Saying your title fits in that case would be like in a post entitled long swords, Then your thread goes, I killed something last night with a long sword and it got me thinking what is the best way to kill, things, the fastest deadliest thing in the game, spells, cost etc are no object. The entire thread is about good ways to kill things, and the only way it's related to long swords is that was the thing that sparked your idea, or basically the thread would have nothing to do with long swords. Your post is the same, hey ploy any. Can you use poly any to blah, why because the entire reason I want to know is if this would work for castle creation and other magical ways to get it done fast.

Oh yeah almost forgot :D and other emote things so people know I'm just kidding aorund.

It would be much more appropriate to title it magical castle creation ideas, and then in your 1st paragraph say I want all ways to do it, but also on the specific side would poly any work.

As for the help thing gee that was a joke, note the 2nd paragraph where I basically say hah I'm jokeing around I just wanted to bump this thread. Next time I'll put in a bunch of :) so people who are humor impared can get it.:) :)

Oh yeah one more thing. I think in the 2nd ed mindset everynow and then and I fogot that wall of stone/iron are now instantaneous spells and not permanent spells and so they can't be dispelled. Basically if you load up on wall spell, usingf higher level slots as well, maybe some move earth spells or planar ally? spells to excavate the area, in a couple days you can have the location and general castle shape. Then load up with shape stone spells or fabricate spells again using higher level slots and then do the finishing touches, like add doorways, change ramps into stairs etc.

All these spells are free in that there isn't a costly material component, the only expense would be the wizards time. How long it would take would be dependent on how big of a castle he wants. I doubt it would take more than a week though if the mage actually dedicated himself to the task.(actually I'd bet 3 days, would be enough 20-30 walls of stone in one day is a lot of material and likely all ready a decent size castle.) personally I'd take extra time and stack wall of stone/iron/stone for at the very least my outer walls with maybe some kind of anti rust spell. especially in games where iron disrupts some forms of scrying.
