Question about Snatch Feat

The snatch feat says in part "The creature can choose to start a grapple when it hits with a claw or bite attack, as though it had the improved grab special attack. If the creature gets a hold on a creature three or more sizes smaller, it squeezes each round for automatic bite or claw damage."

Can a creature with the snatch feat start a grapple against any creature when it hits with its bite, or only against those three or more sizes smaller? That is, does the second sentence modify the first or give a new ability that applies only in a particular circumstance.

I believe Enamel is correct. So a huge dragon with this feat could grab and perhaps fly away with a human, but doesn't get to do automatic damage every round, since the size difference is only two.

What he said. Improved Grab only works against creatures at least one category smaller than you unless otherwise noted, so I'd say that applies here too. So, for example, a huge creature with the feat will get an automatic grapple check against any enemy it hits, of large size or smaller. If it gets a hold and the enemy is of small size or smaller, it gets automatic bite/claw damage each round.

Especially since you're correct. I just checked and the feat does say that it works as Snatch does, except that you can grab someone two size categories smaller than you.

Personally, I think that as written in the MM, the Snatch feat does work as I described in post 4 above. The writer of the Draconomicon apparently disagrees. There you have it.
