Question about Spell-like abilities and PrC requirements

Psychotic Jim

First Post
My group has just convereted over from 3.5 and I have a player who is currently playing a pixie and is interested in taking the Arcane Trickster PrC. One of the requirements is being able to cast one arcane spell of at least second level. Does a creature's spell-like ablities qualify for this requirement?

I agree with pawsplay. Spells are _spells_ everything else isn't. You have to hang tough or power creep into easy prestige classes would be a problem. Spellcasting implies a real understanding of a magic and a class progression to get that understanding.

Now, from a gaming perspective. If you pixie was determined to find out the basis for her magic and adventure to understand her pixiedom - and perhaps give up a feat - I might allow it as a DM, if everyone had fun.

Single case exception, of course.

The ability to cast spells or a certain level of spellcaster require class levels, basically. Now, if it only requires a caster level, SLAs may qualify, although there is no guarantee the abilities you gain willl be useful.
