Question: Attacking Mounted vs. On Foot

Well, the trained warhorse costs how much, compared to the barding and magic?

Address that and you'll see them take better care of their horses.

Heavy warhorses are cheap compared to even a +2 cloak of resistance. Quite frankly, you can steal them off dead bad guys with an appropriate skill checks. (They're disposable loot in D&D.)

Ride by Attack sort of loses its luster when dealing with a reach weapon or reach creature...

If you have Spirited Charge, you also always have Ride-by Attack, so it has to be multiple creatures to be an issue.
Ride-By Attack said:
Benefit: When you are mounted and use the charge action, you may move and attack as if with a standard charge and then move again (continuing the straight line of the charge). Your total movement for the round can't exceed double your mounted speed. You and your mount do not provoke an attack of opportunity from the opponent that you attack.

Makes sense, but I recall a conversation here, within the last 2 years discussing using a mount with ride by attack on a gargantuan dragon, and the rider being obliterated on the way out....Really don't care to dig it up, but the text you quoted is pretty straight forward.
