Where the heck is Mercenaries: Born of Blood? I just checked some messages I exchanged with the author last August and September about it. I mean, sure, delays happen... but dammit, I want this book!

Where the heck is Mercenaries: Born of Blood? I just checked some messages I exchanged with the author last August and September about it. I mean, sure, delays happen... but dammit, I want this book!

Hey there,

I was going to post to the OWC boards today the current status of Mercs, and why it's taken so long, as well as posting the same here, but your post saves me from starting a new thread.

Here are the basics:

1. The book was set to go to the printer (for release in January), and while I was doing final editing on the Quark files I came to realize that I just couldn't stand the graphic design and presentation of the book. The text was awesome, the art rocked, but the graphic design of the book was a constant source of irritation. Now, that wasn't in and of itself the reason why the book isn't out yet.

2. As a result of the graphic design issue, the book was printing out way too dark. No matter how the Quark files were played with, large portions of the text were coming out unreadable. (Mainly the stuff in the "sidebar" boxes) Some of this was noticeable in the PDF's, but once printed it became obvious.

As a result of #'s 1 & 2, the book went back to layout and was just finished last week. (Friday to be exact) Today and tomorrow we'll be doing final touches and then it's off to Canada to get printed, and then stores.

I honestly think that the book is 100% better for the changes we made the layout and I think most people will agree with us. Thenew layout is night and day from the old one and is an enormous improvement.

We are extremely sorry that it's taken so long to get this book out. If it hasn't been one thing, it's been another. But finally it looks like the long road is over.

Add on top of this a billion other things that went wrong in January (my computer went belly up, *and* I got hit with a virus after upgrading to WinXP on the previous one), and it was a hellish month. But its over now.

Obviously the preview must represent the original layout... yeah, now that you mention it, it is pretty dark on my screen, as PDFs go. I'll be interested to compare the actual book with the preview to see the changes.
