Question re Class Skills

Much of the information I see on this site WRT "Class Skills" seems to be operating under the assumption that the list of skills available for characters to choose from will be based on class.

3e is definitely configured that way.

My question is, has anything published by WotC indicated it will be so in 4e as well? Do we know for sure that everyone won't just be able to pick from the list of "all" skills?

Based on the Rogue preview, each class gets a certain number of trained skills that they pick from a list based on their class.

It appears that any character can take a feat to become trained in a skill outside the norm for their class.

Hope that answers your question.

I wonder at the justification of using class skill lists. On the surface it doesn't seem unbalancing to let a player choose any 4 skills for his character. That they have to be on the approved list seems to just stifle creativity.

That gets back into the ongoing debates over a classless system and the new role concepts.

You can take non-class skills as trained, you just have to take a skill training feat or dual-class with a feat.

And it appears, for now, that some powers/abilities will just be totally unavailable unless a class is your main.
