Questions about Armor Spikes...

Thanks for the clarification!

Yeah- Kyton armor is pretty cool...but I've been seduced by the image of the warrior classes having their own version of the Ioun stones.

Bonus Round (does not supplant replying to the initial barrage of questions):

If you were allowing Armor Spikes to Dance, etc., would you enchant each one as a seperate weapon if you wanted them to be able to seperate things?

Imagine the Porcupine Samurai doing the equivalent of "Fly, my pretties, FLY!!" with different spikes taking on different targets...a FRPG equivalent to those scenes from Big Mecha Anime series when they launch a barrage of rockets...

While it's a nice picture, I wouldn't allow it unless you bought and enchanted multiple sets of armor spikes. And I'm not sure if I'd allow multiple sets. It is only one weapon, and I don't want to think about how you'd divide the d4 (or whatever damage dice) and other bonuses among the targets.

I'm pretty sure it would have to be reasonably expensive...say $10k for this particular enchantment (to be named later) per set of 4 spikes (S 1d4 or M 1d6 x2P). Taking a page from the Multiheaded template (Savage Species) there would only be room for 2 such sets on a S to M creature, +1 set per size class above that. They would have the BAB of a 4hd creature plus whatever bonuses were put on them in the first place. (Each set would need to be independently enchanted.)

Its not the most cost effective weapon, but its got that "Phantasm Sphere" vibe going for it.

Isn't there a kind of "...of the Manticore"-type item that does something like this already? Don't ask me where it came from, but it sounds familiar.

I checked out both the Kyton Armor and the Manticore Greatsword...

It would seem that some of the game's designers thought about this kind of concept before and have come up with a couple of different ways of doing this stunt.

I'll have to give it some thought...and then see if I can convince my DM...or use it on a BBEG when next I'm behind the screen.
