Questions about converting spells from 2E to 3E

I'm trying to convert some of the spells from the 2nd Ed supplement Pages from the Mages, and I came across one that I'm having problems with. Specifically, Prismatic Eye (PftM,p12).

The spell in 2nd Ed was a 6th level Alteration/Evocation spell, which creates an eyeball resembling that of wizard eye/arcane eye. once every four rounds the eye could emit a single target ray (requiring an attack roll) that functioned exactly as a color spray spell. In lieu of the color spray effect, the eye could glow as per a light spell for four rounds.

I'm thinking:
a) drop the level to 5th; the feats that repeat spells only raise it a maximum of 4 levels, and this isn't as effective as those.
b) making it an Evocation spell; my poblem with this is that Color Spray is an Illusion[Pattern] spell, so it seems odd to have an evocation spell duplicating an illusion, but there is some precedent in the Prismatic Wall/Sphere/Spray spells.

What do people think?

LEvel 5 seems fine, as Arcane eye if 4, and coor spray isn;t that powerful an effect.
As for the school, this is a tough one. This uses three schools. Illusion, evocation and divination. What I would do is go diff and call it conjuration. Just like the power of summoned creatures don't effect the school of summon monster, you can say there are these eye things that live in the astral plane, and well the spell is cast, they appear here, link with the wiz so he can see and bang.
