Questions about Thrown weapons and "flanking" and sneak attack

Hello there everyone,

I've been thumbing through The Complete Warrior and something in there caught my eye, the Master Thrower! This looks like a different, fun type of character to play. (for anyone that doesn't have Complete Warrior, it's a prestige class based on throwing weapons)

I'd be starting off from first level and have to work my way up to it, so I have a few questions. Let's say the character is a Halfling Rogue who takes Point Blank Shot at 1st and uses daggers. Now, when I'm flanking with someone in my party, I get to add my sneak attack damage against, let's say a goblin. Say I want to back up 5 feet and throw my dagger at the goblin, I'm no longer considered "flanking" am I(and therefore don't get sneak attack dmg)?

If not, what if I where to just throw it right there where I was next to the goblin, I'm still "flanking" him, but I'm throwing my dagger at him which is a ranged attack (and the goblin would get an AoO on me), is that still considered flanking and I get to do sneak attack dmg? (also, any feat that would allow me to not provoke the AoO in this situation?)

If the answer is no to both of those, are there any feats that I could take that would allow me to be considered "flanking" when I throw my daggers either in the square right next to the monster, or a few squares away?(any distance is fine really)

Hmm, that's all that I can currently think of, if you have any suggestions though, please pass them on! :)

Correct. You can't flank using ranged weapons.

No, you can't flank using ranged wepons, regardless of the range they are fired.

AFAIK, there are no feats published by WotC that allow you to do this. There are abilities that allow you to avoid the AoO from firing ranged weapons in melee range however.

Possibly there is a 3rd party publisher who created such a feat. However, IMO, to would be very difficult to decide if you were flanking with a ranged weapon -- particularly if you were firing from 30 ft away.

Actually, it would be just the same as determining whether you were flanking with a 30' Reach weapon. You'd draw a line from the centre of your square to the centre of your ally's square, and see if it passed through opposite sides/corners of the opponent's square.

You might want to get together with your DM on this one, Wonka. Personally, I'd be willing to create a feat that allowed you to flank with thrown daggers in an adjacent square. Though I'd never allow one that permitted flanking from any greater distance. Your DM might feel the same...or even be more generous. :)
